Purpose : This procedure is used as work instruction for Turbine Operator, Field Engineer, Desk Engineer and Shift In charge Scope : This procedure explains Startup of BFP and its isolation Responsibility: TG operator, Desk/Field Engineer, Shift In charge. Procedure: Before Starting: 1) Check the permits issued for the above equipment are returned. 2) Oil level in Hydraulic Coupling should be normal 3) Start the AOP & check the Lube Oil header pressure (> 1.5 Kg/cm 2) & filter DP (< 0.6 Kg/cm2 4) Check the lube oil flow by 'flow glass' connected at bearing return oil line of all bearings. 5) Charge all the coolers (Motor, Working Oil cooler, Lube Oil cooler, Mechanical seal coolers & BFP jacket coolers) 6) Check the cooling water flow and inlet & outlet pressure of the above coolers 7) Close all the drain valves of Booster Pump & BFP suction & discharge line, Booster Pump & BFP casing drain, BP & BFP strainer drain. 8) Open the vents of Booster Pump & BFP suction strainers and BFP discharge line before opening the suction valve. 9) Open the suction valve very slowly & check the air comes out through the vents. Gradually open the suction valve & check the leakages. 10) After proper venting close all the vents. 11) Instrument air line to BFP recirculation valve & Scoop tube should be open. 12) Charge all the local pressure gauges/transmitters/switches. 13) At Deaerator floor manual valve of BFP recirculation line should be open. 14) BFP discharge valve & its IBV should closed & recirculation should be open 15) Local Push Button should be released 16) Deaerator level gauge should be visible. 17) All Deaerator level transmitter (3 nos) & level switch (3 nos) should be in line with DCS. 18) Deaerator level should be normal (> 600) at DCS. 19) BFP scoop should be in minimum position. 20) BFP suction valve open feed back should be available at DCS. 21) BFP breaker should be in service & remote. 22) Check all other permissive should be available at DCS. 23) All BFP protection & interlock should be through. 24) BFP can be started on recirculation. Start permissive: 1. BFP should be in off condition. 2. Motor winding temp not > 120C. 3. BFP bearing temp not > 90C. 4. BFP suction valve should be opened. 5. Deaerator level normal. 6. There should not be switchgear disturbance. 7. Motor trip relay should not be operated.

8. Lube oil pressure at common header should be >0.8 kg/cm. 9. Scoop tube position should be in minimum and manual. 10. Hydraulic coupling tank oil level should not be low. 11. BFP suction and discharge temp difference should not be > 10 C. 12. Working oil temp at cooler inlet and outlet should not be >110C and >70 C respectively. 13. Lube oil temp at cooler inlet and outlet should not be > 65C and >55C respectively. 14. If BFP is not in standby condition following to be satisfied. BFP minimum recirculation valve should be in opened. BFP discharge valve and its integral bypass valve closed.

Tripping condition: 1. Any one out of 8 vibration very high (>18 mm/s). Page 2 of 4 Desk Engineer Prepared By Head - Operations Reviewed & Approved By

2. Any two out 6 wdg temp high (>125 C). 3. Any one of bearing temperature >100C.

4. BFP suction and discharge temperature difference > 15C and suction flow <120t/h. 5. Working oil temp at cooler inlet >130C. 6. 2 out of 3 deaerator level very low. 7. Lube oil pressure low <0.5 kg/cm. 8. Lube oil temp very high > 70C. 9. BFP suction valve not opened. 10. BFP suction pressure < 14 kg/cm. 11. BFP manual stop command.

After Starting: (1) AOP will be auto stop when lube oil header pressure is greater than 2.5 Kg/Cm2. (2) DMCW cooling water Motor Operated Valve will be auto open after starting BFP. (3) Open all the vents (HPH-5 & 6 and at Feed control Station) in feed water line before opening discharge valve. (4) Open the IBV of discharge valves. (5) After proper venting close all the vents stated above. (6) Now open the discharge valve. Isolation of BFP: (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7) Reduce the scoop to minimum position. Check that BFP recirculation valve is auto open when the flow becomes low. Stop the BFP Ensure that AOP is started on auto. Ensure that DMCW cooling water Motor Operated Valve is closed on auto. Close the BFP discharge valve & ensure that its IBV is also closed. Isolate the breaker of BFP motor Page 3 of 4 Desk Engineer Prepared By Head - Operations Reviewed & Approved By
