Knowles 9 May 2013 Infinite Souls In the poem by Sri Chinmony Loss of a Loved One writes the wise words which attempt to tell the readers that peoples souls are immortal. The poet says The body has death, but not the soul. He is trying to communicate his belief of peoples souls being infinite and even though the body dies, peoples souls will always move on. In Loss of a Loved one Sri Chinmony uses metaphors and repetition to develop the idea that peoples souls never die. Metaphors are used all throughout the poem to show the importance by comparing and relating the speakers ideas to common well known things. The speaker states Death is the road, life is the traveler.(3-4). These lines are showing the significant connection in the poem of how the speaker tries to show the reader that life travels down the road of death and life will follow where ever death roams. The speaker is also trying to develop his idea of his beliefs on how life and the soul work. Life is compared in unison with the soul in this poem and in the specific lines and is saying that life and peoples souls always move on, even if their bodies die. Another clear example of a metaphor is in line 5 when the speaker says the soul is the guide. In this line the speaker is saying that peoples souls are their guides, their leaders. This particularly resembles the speakers principle of conviction of life and death which leads to the souls existence. By comparing the soul to a guide the speaker uses the comparison to almost get the readers involved

and interested into the theme. He is saying there is no forceful ending to our lives, our bodies stop but our souls never do, they only direct us the right way, a never ending cycle. The speaker uses repetition to not exaggerate but prove the main essence of how repeating the theme of the poem causes the reader to have a strong understang and clear mind of what he is trying to get across. A strong example of repetition is when the author states, The body has death, but not the soul. The body sleeps, but the soul flies.(13-14). In these lines it shows the two key words repeated which are body & soul. He is almost chanting his feelings through these words made of a serene core. He is saying our souls fly which also means it is free and will not stop. The speaker also states in lines 1-2, Death is not the end, death can never be the end. He repeats the word death 2 times to show its significance, the second time he says it, it is more intense because he adds the word never which makes his point clear and understood in stern confidence. He is trying to get through to the reader the main key of the poem which is, death will not be the end. This poem is more like a life lesson. It can teach people to conjure the fear everyone has, death. It teaches people to move on, to not be afraid, because whatever they do and whatever happens to their souls will always roam in a limitless land that call the names of rebellion. That leaves their hearts with not a cold knock but only a thud of blooming light that can never be dimmed. It teaches people that they are infinite no matter what.
