Fiber Enclosure Best Practice: 1. Mounting fiber enclosures on the strand free up space on the pole.

This allows for easy vertical access to the pole by Kenya Power technicians during maintenance. This allows technicians working on power line easy access without interference from telecommunication equipment. This methods safe guards the fiber enclosure from damage. 2. The fiber enclose is made of plastic and as such is light in weight .Mounting the enclosure few feet from the pole would not put undue tension on the pole.

3. During pole change over it is easy to transfer a strand mounted enclosure on to the new pole, all the technician needs to do is free the strand from the pole and it goes down with all the equipment attached to it. If the enclose were to be mounted on the pole it would require the team carryout the pole change over to remove the enclosure and they might not be equipped to do so. This would also add more work to Kenya Power technicians who might be responding to an emergency. 4. There might not be enough space on the pole to fit all service providers fiber enclosures. In the event there is space on the pole, the pole would be cluttered if all enclosures are to be pole mounted. In some areas where Kenya Power has rolled out prepaid meters, the meter is mounted on the pole this would leave very little room on the pole to mount the enclose.
