LESSON PLAN

Class: 9 Technology (textiles)

Lesson Topic: Screen Printing

Recent Prior Experience (specific relevant concepts, skills and values the school students have experienced prior to this lesson): Students will be learning a new skill which they can choose to use in the development of their projects which they have been working on in-class for the past few weeks. Syllabus Outcome(s): One or two only. Please note the syllabus reference number AND write out in full. Indicators of Learning for this lesson: Behaviours that contribute toward achievement of outcome(s). Quote syllabus numbers. Must be clear, specific, observable. Curriculum Content Strands may be used as headings. By the end of this lesson, the students will: - Conduct screen printing on fabric in a safe manner - Understand the uses of screen printing at present - Appreciate the development of screen printing over time - 5.5.2 selects appropriate techniques and uses equipment safely in the production of quality textile projects - Understand how stencils work - Ss can choose to apply screen prints to their in class projects (a formal assessment) which will be marked Assessment: Strategies which will be used to assess learners attainment of learning outcomes. Should be linked to each learning indicator. -Observe Ss attempt at screen printing on scrap material ensuring correct procedure is followed

Any safety issues to be considered: -Students must be cautious as they are in a technology classroom, where there are additional hazards than in a normal classroom. -Handling ink therefore aprons and gloves should be worn.

T asks Ss to move inside the classroom to their desks and remain standing. T greets Ss, introducing myself and partner student teacher (*Note to marker this is a shared lesson). T asks Ss to be seated and begins marking the role. T informs Ss that they'll be learning how to screen print. T develops interest into the topic of 'screen printing' by asking Ss what their ideas are about screen printing? all contributions should be praised.

Begin Presentation DEVELOPMENT Define screen printing

T begins presentation - Ss are told to raise their hand during the presentation if they have any questions.

1m 2:17pm

T defines what screen printing is with notes and images in the presentation. T points to the images in the presentation, questioning the Ss what the object in the image is and explaining it. T goes over the history of screen printing highlighting interesting facts about its development and its uses in history. T asks Ss "what do we use screen printing for?" Ss share their ideas. Praise Ss for their contributions. T continues on presentation listing all uses of screen printing. T shows examples of screen printing including an example of one of Andy Warhol's works which used screen printing to form the artwork. T asks Ss if they can identify both the artist, the name of artwork and who features in the artwork. Praise Ss for answers. T plays 2 minute YouTube video demonstrating screen printing pausing and explaining parts of the video demonstration when necessary. After video other T takes over. *OTHER STUDENT TAKES OVER Ts provide assistance to students
