Assessment Plan

Entry-Level Warm-up Brainstorm discussion/exercise about real world linear equations. Talk about variables and ask students to give examples and describe how they might be graphed in a chart. Ask students to fill out graphic organizer using vocabulary words below. Formative Multimedia SlideRocket: Graphing a line using ordered pairs, Ask questions to be answered during class discussion and by embedded video. Quiz: Fill in the blank & Graph a line using ordered pairs and be able to describe the describe relationship. Create a Comic Strip explaining the steps of graphing a linear equation. Multimedia Quizlet: Flashcards, practicing vocabulary and definitions. Summative Presentation of chosen linear equation formed by real world relationship to be presented with real facts. Group work with collaboration. Cricket Problem: Do a group experiment with chirping crickets; students will time chirps and measure temperature. Use this real world representation of a linear equation to not only present in a written report but also suggest real world uses of a linear equations.

Assessment Plan Summary

There will be continuous assessments to make sure all students are keeping up with both review of old topics and new ideas. Their prior knowledge will be tested through a group brainstorming discussion regarding linear equations represented in the real world. The four formative assessments are, coming up with an idea, graphing and sharing with friend, graph a line from selected point but writing an explanation using a hypothetical situations, questions to be asked and to be answered by the group. There will be a fill in the blank during lecture and a second one similar to the first one but as a quiz to follow up on vocabulary comprehension. For a fun assessment they will create a Comic strip explaining all the steps required while graphing a linear equation. The student can decide which method to use but have to include all the steps. The last formative assessment is a digital assessment in form of flashcards on multimedia site Quizlet. For the Summative assessment there will be a rubric for the group project with scoring guide with specific criteria based on big ideas and objectives. There will also be a worksheet to be filled out using cartoon drawings explaining how to graph a line using x- and y-intercepts. The final summative assessment will be to do an experiment with timing chirping crickets and put together a written report in collaborative form as a group project.
