GENERATIONS MEETING VIA ICT The retired people in our community visit the Day Centre for adults

but except the group of men, playing cards and a group of women singing in the choir for old traditional town songs, they havent got meaningful activities. Most of them are not fully convinced that ICT technology can make their life much more meaningful, that they can get connected with adults from all over the world, share experience and live together with us. During our summer workshop on the Youth in Action programme I succeeded in persuading the other members of our Student Chapter to help me realize the idea instructing the visitors of the Day Centre for adults how to get connected to each other, how to retrieve information, how to send messages and use skype and facebook. I am after making a positive change in our community by doing my best to eliminate the digital divide between us and the adult people in our community. We are ready to commit time and skills to teach the adults in basic computer skills. As some of them are very lonely and their children live abroad, I am sure that my project for connecting retired people will be very important for our community. The aim of the project is to train 20 people from the Day Centre for adults in basic computer skills for communication and information. There will be provided one computer and training materials. Project programme Project start April 26th Global Youth Service Day May 26th 2013 1. We will start the project by conducting a survey among the adult people to define their needs, the best suitable time for them to come to our trainings and what computer to provide for them. 2. The survey will be published in the local electronic newspaper and we will ask the journalist to come and register the event. 3. The computer will be bought with the money from the project funds + the money we have collected from the bake sales at our schools. 4. The first lesson will take place on the Global Youth Service Day. 5. Together with the other members there will be written a timetable for us to visit the Day centre for adults and conduct the training. 6. We will write simple instructions to be followed. 7. The course will last one month 2 times a week, during that time we will support the old people to get in touch with their friends and relatives abroad. 8. Then we will give Certificates for participation 9. We will spend the grant for printing the instructions, for printing the announcements for the event and the certificates, for refreshments during the coffee breaks and buying a simple computer configuration for the Day Centre of Adults 10. We will contact the local authorities to greet the participants at the first training and after the completion of the training 11. The course will be completed with a trip to a Computer Centre in the nearby town Date Event Necessities Own Grant th April 20 2013 Survey Bus tickets for 20,00 conduction 10 people from Pravets to Trudovets April 22nd 2013 Distribution of announcements Paper, colour pencils, printing 20,00

My project has been approved by the members of our students chapter, by the members od the Community Chapter and by the adult advisor. I am sure that this project will have a positive impact on the life in our community and the old people will start to respect us more and we will get to know them better and will plan a follow-up project where adults will teach us how to cook traditional Bulgaria dishes.
