Dr. Mulherins Legacy

Dr. William Butch Mulherin began Athens Orthopedic Clinic in 1966. Since then, the world of orthopedics has grown and evolved but his approach to orthopedic care has never waivered. His first priority has always been the patient, regardless of what that meant for his time and resources. In a community where the population of uninsured residents is 12% above the national benchmark, we are called to action as a community of caregivers to look after each and every individual. Through this Foundation, we hope to carry on the legacy Dr. Mulherin established nearly 50 years ago - a legacy of care, compassion, concern, and community - by fostering a community where accessible orthopedic resources are available to all.

Did you know?

The Mulherin Foundation has started a Device Collection Initiative giving individuals the opportunity to donate their gently -used mobility and stabilizing devices. The William B. Mulherin Foundation for Health & Wellness is a member of the Athens Health Network (AHN). 100% of the Board of Directors for the Mulherin Foundation give financially to help support the organization.

Whats Ahead for 2013?

We have hit the ground running this year and we are excited about the possibilities ahead. Right now, we have a year-long nutrition counseling program for orthopedic patients set up with Mercy Health Center. Additionally, we are in the preliminary stages of another nutrition program through Athens Community Council on Aging for recently discharged orthopedic surgery patients. As the year goes on, we will be tracking the progress of these programs to report the impact of by the end of 2013. OUR GOAL: To foster a community where comprehensive orthopedic resources are accessible by all.

Find out if your employer matches employee charitable contributions to create double the impact. Give Time Planning is underway for the Mulherin Foundations first annual fundraising event and we need volunteers to help with planning and to participate the day of the event.
