This week we are finishing Unit 8 in Math. This unit students reviewed equivalent fractions, compared fractions, and added and subtracted fractions. They will were introduced to multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers. We also practiced estimating and calculating the percent of a number. Students should make sure they understand the math vocabulary and can apply it in their work.

Reading and Writing: Poetry


Last week students learned how similes and metaphors make poems more powerful. This week they will write a poem describing their faces that includes three similes and three metaphors. This week students will work through different centers with activities focused on both poetry and the Reading Street skills and strategies. Students will work with poetry vocabulary, analyze poems, write poems, and use technology to make shape poems. We will also begin researching famous poets. Students will be researching, drafting, editing, and writing their final papers in class. The Poetry Race is on and zooming. Students are practicing their fluency, accuracy, and expression by reciting poems to their friends and family members. Keep it up!

Science: What are properties of objects?


This week we will continue investigating properties of objects and how matter can change. We will do an online simulation that allows us to make a hypothesis and test it all through the internet. Students will also become experts on different aspects of investigating properties and will teach
