Fashion Illustration Assignment

A/ Create a croquis to use as a template for future fashion illustration
assignments.
How to draw a CROQUIS: 1. Find a photograph in a magazine of a wo/man in a forward-facing pose, wearing tightly fitted clothing. Your goal is to choose a pose that is easy to trace. Avoid models wearing baggy/loose clothing, or models in complicated poses. 2. Use tracing paper and a pencil to trace the outline of the models body. Dont worry about facial features, hair, or other details yet that will come later (Hint: use a little tape to secure tracing paper to magazine). 3. Draw 2 cutting-lines at the mid-thigh and mid-calf. 4. Use scissors to cut through the lines youve made. Place cut pieces onto a blank piece of white paper and separate/stretch out your traced body until it becomes 9 heads high (one head higher than original). Pay attention to body proportion! 5. Tape down the new body securely onto your paper. 6. Create a copy of your CROQUIS by retracing over your original onto another piece of white paper, with the extended lower body. You may want to go over your final drawing with a fine tipped black marker or dark pencil to give it a finished look. Be sure to include your logo at the bottom of the page. 7. Hand in EVERYTHING you used to create your croquis to be marked!!

Create a fashion illustration using your croquis and the original photograph you used to create your croquis. /2 /10

1. Use pencil and a separate piece of paper to create another copy of your croquis. 2. Use your original photo as reference to draw the SAME outfit onto your croquis. Focus on how the clothing hangs off the body, the lights and darks in the photo (where you should add shade and dimension to your drawing) and the details on the garments. 3. Draw in facial features, hair, accessories, and any other details you wish. 4. You may choose to colour your fashion illustration with pencil crayons or simply add dimension by shading with a pencil or fine-tipped marker. Be sure to include your logo at the bottom of the page.
