Senior Project 120 Lesson Plan March 25th 2013

Teacher: Miss Laura Noble Objectives: The objective of this class is to monitor student progress on their Senior Projects. While each student has a different project, all are required to present a mid-term presentation about how far they have come in their individual projects. Students are to express any issues they are having with their project at this time. Non-presenting students are to ask thought provoking and detailed questions about each senior project. Time: 65 Minute Class

Materials Needed: SmartBoard, Whiteboard, Markers, Internet Access, laptops and anything else that the students need to present their midterm project. Individual students are meant to bring their own materials to class. Syllabus of the 120 Senior Project class, written by Mr. Taggart.

Lesson/Outline of class structure: During class today, three students will be presenting their mid-term project. This projectbased learning class allows for accepted students to prepare any project of their choosing in any area of interest. Each presentation should run approximately 15-20 minutes. The idea of this class is to allow for independent but guided learning. Each Monday is reserved for in-class catch up, where students come talk to Mr. Taggart and me to tell us where they may need help in their project. During the rest of the week, students are either welcome to work in Mr. Taggarts class, or go to an area (in or outside of school) that is beneficial to their project (ex: students who are creating a CD are usually located in the music room). While the help we give the students may be simple (such as providing a website or sending an e-mail), this allows students to focus more on the larger aspects of their presentations/projects, such as collecting materials and finding volunteers. Many students have chosen a lecture/presentation route, where they will be travelling to different areas and doing presentations on things that matter to them personally, such as community outreach and putting an end to bullying.

Other students are doing researched based projects, such as creating a handbook for transgendered youth. Multimedia presentations are also being created, such as documentaries on body image and feminism amongst youth.

Marking: Todays presentations will be marked on several different factors. Since students are rarely in the classroom, we will be checking to make sure that they are holding true to the responsibilities that were given to them due to the nature of this independent class. Non-presenting students are asked to give their opinions, as well as ask questions about their peers in the class.

Differentiation: Each student decides what they are to accomplish during their semester in Senior Project class. Mr. Taggart reviewed all ideas and projects that were submitted by students before work was started to make sure that their goals were achievable and realistic.

Conclusion: If presenters finish early, the rest of the class will be a work period for all students. Students who are presenting later in the week will be reminded of their presentation date and time.

After class: After each class, Mr. Taggart and I will discuss how each presentation went. Together, we will decide if the student in question needs more guidance with their project, and how we can help each student reach their targeted level of success.
