Multi Genre Research Project Assignment Description

A multi genre project presents multiple, even conflicting, perspectives on a topic or event, in order to provide a rich
context and present an aesthetically appealing product for an audience. Your multi genre project should include the
following:

 A topic of your choice. Your topic can range from your favorite actor to something that you have some interest in.
THIS NEEDS TO BE APPROVED BY ME BEFORE YOU START YOUR RESEARCH!

 A total of 40 index cards with information from a minimum of 8 sources total.

• Research update 1 due Thursday, Day 4: 15 index cards from 3 different sources
• Research update 2 due Friday, Day 5: 15 index cards from 3 more different sources
• Research update 3 due Monday, Day 6: 10 index cards from 2 more different sources

 4 Genres
• Genre #1: Informative Essay- THIS GENRE IS REQUIRED & WILL BE COMPLETED FIRST
• 5 pages minimum, double spaced, 12 pt. font, Times New Roman
• DUE Thursday, Day 9

• Genre #2: Print Media— You can choose from ONE of the following:

Newspaper article, Obituary, Editorial, Letter to the editor, Advice column,

Magazine article, or make up your own and get it approved by me.

DUE Monday, Day 11

• Genre #3: Visual— You can choose from ONE of the following:

Movie, Website, PowerPoint, Poster, Advertisement, Travel Brochure, Greeting

card/Post card, Comic strip, Menu, Picture/Illustration, Graph, Map, CD cover,
Certificate, Recipe, Collage, Book Jacket, or make up your own and get it
approved by me.

DUE Thursday, Day 14

*YOU WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO USE THIS VISUAL TO AID YOU DURING YOUR PRESENTATION OF
YOUR PORTFOLIO*

• Genre #4: Creative Writing— You can choose from ONE of the following:

Play/Script, Diary, Song, Grocery list, Poem, Ransom note, Personal

commentary, Short story, Announcement, or make up your own and get it
approved by me.

DUE Monday, Day 16

 Final Portfolio (can be digital or in a binder)

• Works Cited page needs to be included (minimum of 8 sources total/MLA format)

 Presentation (5-10 minutes)
