Tawfiq Nsair -Examinations A true measure of ability?

English editing

Exams are not the way to evaluate performance and ability. Sadly, this is an overused way to measure the ability of an individual group or society. How can exams be useful? Is there any substitutes? Are there any substitutes? All this will be discussed in this speech. Firstly, I think that exams are a must. They are very important. But the way they reflect the ability is not completely correct. Exams are like huge business. You put your best effort in them but one single mistake may destroy the whole thing. The Ministry of Education here in Oman is following a great system to evaluate students performance. They divided students final mark into a 70% exam and a 30% continuous assessment. They are trying to help students by reducing the weight and importance of final exams. This balance between assessments and exams is the main substitute for straight up examinations. A survey was done by an American University, two years ago. The results were shocking, 95% of the students think that examinations are not the way to evaluate their ability. The main drawback in using examinations is that it creates a sense of fear in students hearts. Exams have become the main concern for students. In order to fix this problem, a balance between examinations and assessments is required. This is the students choice and the right choice. Mr. Mark, my P.E teachers, says that exams shouldnt be a concern. He always tried to cheer us and help us to get over our fears and do our best. I also believe that exams shouldnt be dark and scary. Try to treat exams as any homework of assignment and you will do better than you usually do.
