USE OF FORCE REVIEW BOARD

General Order 1.3.2 Deadly Force Deadly force may only be used under the following circumstances: A. An member may use deadly force when it is necessary to protect the member or others from what he or she reasonably believes is an imminent threat of death or serious physical injury, or A member may use deadly force to capture or seize a dangerous suspect when there is probable cause to believe that the suspect has committed a crime involving the infliction or threatened infliction of death or serious physical injury, presents an imminent threat of death or serious physical injury to another if not apprehended, and there is no reasonably safe means of preventing the suspect's escape. Where feasible, a verbal warning should precede the use of deadly force. Definitions "Reasonable belief" - Facts, circumstances or knowledge present to the officer sufficient to justify a thought or feeling. "Serious physical injury" means bodily injury which creates a substantial risk of death, or which causes serious, permanent disfigurement, or which results in long-term loss or impairment of the function of any bodily part or organ.
