Furnace door control

Type of Assessment

Exercise 6

Task: A furnace door is opened and closed by double-acting cylinder. The cylinder is
activated by a 4/2-way valve with spring return. This ensures that the door opens
only as long as the valve is actuated. When the valve actuating lever is released, the
door closes again.
Exercise Aim:
1. Understanding of hydraulic circuit diagram.
2. To develop the hydraulic circuit according to task given.
3. Installing and commissioning hydraulic components.

Travel Pressure P2 Travel Time - tret

Characteristic data required for calculation;

Piston area: APN = 2 cm
Piston annular area: APR = 1.2 cm
Stoke length: s = 200 mm
Pump output: q = 2 l/min
Area Ratio:

= APN / APR
= .........................

Advance stroke speed:

vadv = q / APN
vadv = ...............................

Advance stroke time:

tadv = s / vadv
tadv = .................................

Retract stroke speed:

vret = q / APN
vret = ...............................

Retract stroke time:

Travel Time - tadv

tret = s / vret
tret = .................................

Ratio of travel speeds:

vadv / vret = ........................
Ratio of travel times:
tadv / tret = ........................

Exercise 6 - 3

Conclusion:
Compare the advance and retract stroke speeds and times with the area ration. What is the
relationship between these?
