But its so much work..

Where do I start?

Multimedia teaches
(from Brainpop.com)

Video Integrates Multiple Media

Through moviemaking, students:

Hone their planning and organizational skills;

Become comfortable producing digital media;

Learn to tell a cohesive story to a target audience in a compelling way; Synthesize and analyze complex content and data; Practice research and technical skills; and Learn how academic subject matter applies to the real world

Considerations for Taking on Video Projects

Goals of the curriculum unit

Unique affordances of the medium

Primary skills you want students to develop Motivational factors Maturity & tech literacy of students Resources (time, money, space, equipment, etc.)

Managing a Video Project

Content rules Authenticity matters Roles: everyone contributes Work the phases of production Technology is the means, not the ends Performance = understanding Good enough productions

Pre-Production
Teams brainstorm, research, develop project concept proposals Create storyboards for scenes, scripts Scout locations, invite experts, etc. Rehearse actors if using them Gather props, sets, costumes: create location checklist Prepare equipment ( mics, lighting, cameras)

Production
Set up location, lighting, test sound Record scenes (review and re-record if needed) Shoot b-roll, gather still shots, prepare music & other sound Design titling, captioning, credits Label media containing video clips

Post-Production
Transfer all media assets to computer Create a movie from video, stills, music and other assets Create theme, transitions, titling to complete the movie Export movie to a playback format Have a film festival!

Managing a Video Project

Remember. Failures are part of the learning Equip kids to work as independently as possible Be rigorous about criteria for excellent work Discourage imitation/encourage voice You dont have to know everything to do this
