Dykehead Wind Turbine Project

g2 Energy were engaged by Pure Renewable Energy to undertake the Civil and Electrical Balance of Plant works on a single 500kW Wind Turbine at Dykehead Farm, Stonehouse, Scotland. This is an EWT 500kW machine, installed under the Governments Feed in Tariff scheme, where the generated electricity is being exported back into the national grid. g2 Energy were responsible for the complete design and construction of the Wind Turbine foundation, the DNO & Client electrical substations and the associated electrical installation. For this project, g2 Energy also liaised with the local DNO, Scottish Power Energy Networks (SPEN), regarding the 11kV electrical grid connection. This required the design and construction of a 2.5km cable route going from the client substation to the DNO substation. The Civil Design works included: Geotechnical Site Survey Wind Turbine Foundation Design DNO & Client Substation Design & Build Wind Turbine Transformer base design

The Electrical Design works included: Site layout and Single Line Diagram Cable design and specification DNO & Client Substation design & Switchgear specification Earthing Survey and design, using CDEGS software

Protection grading studies were undertaken using ERACs software; this requirement ensures suitable settings for the system protective devices, within the High Voltage network, are set up correctly. g2 Energy also completed the G59/2 protection commissioning works, all being witnessed and approved by SPEN; this being a UK requirement for projects that wish to connect into the grid and export. To date, g2 Energy have successfully connected 24 single site 500kW Wind Turbines to the national electricity grid, with a number of additional projects currently in construction, due to be completed by mid 2013.
