Hatton Heartbeat
The Hatton Family Newsletter

Get ready
So, do you want the long version or the short one? I'm guessing you'll have seen that you have mail form us, immediately cancelled all of todays appointments, made a cuppa, grabbed a biscuit and put your phone on silent in anticipation of giving your full attention to our news for the next hour. If that's the case then read on. If not then you can skip to the last paragraph, which is a brief summary.

It seems like we've waited a lifetime to write this, but we are excited to share our news with you regarding what we are about to embark on. In truth we have waited for two lives to progress far enough for this adventure to take off. Jethro will be 15 months by the time you read this and Phoebe will be closer to 4 years. Two lives who have changed ours and that we are so privileged to have been entrusted with. We have to say that being parents is by far the hardest thing we have ever had to do, and I bet many of you will agree!

The Big Picture

Background

So, what this all about?

At our wedding in 2007 verses from Isaiah 61 were read out about Setting the captives free. We felt strongly at the time that these would form the basis of any future ministry that we would have together. As we have grown together and become parents it is becoming more obvious that our shared desire to see people come to wholeness in Christ is becoming stronger. And it is in this area particularly regarding issues affecting families, that God is frequently bringing people across our paths. Obviously prayer and personal experience counts for a lot but we know we need to continue to be equipped for whatever God has for us in the future.

Training and equipping

Together we have been accepted to be students on a six month YWAM course called Foundations for Counselling Ministry (FCM) which begins in October. The course is accredited by the Australian Qualifications Network and leads to a Certificate IV in Christian Counselling Ministry. This course will provide us with valuable teaching and resources to continue to pursue our passion. Topics covered will include: Sexuality/Abuse, CrossCultural Counselling, Family Dysfunction, Reconciliation, Addictions, Eating Disorders, Death & Grief, Stress, and Depression to name but a few. The FCM in Perth, Australia carries a community focus. This means issues looked at, are those not just affecting the individual but also the community. The goal is to be equipped to transform neighbourhoods, families, cities and nations through the restoration of one individual at a time. The school is only held in a few locations throughout the world and fortunately for us Perth in Australia is one of them.

Practical considerations

Chris work situation

As you may have heard Chris recently found a new job. At the interview he was upfront with his prospective employer about our plans. His honesty was rewarded. His new boss has agreed to re-employ him when we return from Perth!

Phoebe and Jethro

Phoebe has already packed; she is so excited about going. Once there, she will be able to attend a YWAM run pre-school. She is not so excited about this bit. Jethro will be looked after by various people as and when the need arises, but mainly when we are in lectures each morning.

Travel
It would seem the best way to get to Perth is for all of us to fly. It takes about 5 hours from Canberra. But the thought of being without the car for six months means we are considering the idea of Chris driving across Australia. This takes about 4 days (3900km/2400miles). Carol will fly with the kids to meet him when he arrives

The business end

So, whats it going to cost?
Because the course is accredited and nationally recognized we will be able to get some financial assistance from the Australian government for our course fees of $7920/4748 which include tuition, and full board. We are however still unsure about the exact amount we can claim. Chris is investigating that with the Government agency Centrelink. In addition we still need to come up with travel expenses, fees for the kids and personal expenses for day to day living which still includes nappies! These approximately break down as follows: Travel from Canberra to Perth return Accommodation for Phoebe and Jethro School fees for Phoebe Personal expenses Total (approx.) $ 2500 / 1500 ($235 already received) $ 950 / 570 $ 60 / 36 (donation kindly received) $ 1200 / 720 $ 4710 / 2826

If we go on an overseas outreach (the practical part of the course), we will need to find an estimated additional $10000/6000. We are hoping to be able to stay in Australia and do something closer to home which will cost a bit less, but.... only God knows!

Furthermore While in Perth we will still need to pay rent on our house in Canberra which for 24 weeks will be $9840/5900 plus bills. Finding a tenant to sub-let it to for 24 weeks is proving really difficult, but there are some ideas in the pipeline which look to possibly cover about $4800/2900 of these costs.

Where do you come in?

Finance
It is never easy asking people for financial support especially at this time, however if you would like to help us out by contributing something to our costs we would be ever so grateful. You have seen how much we need to raise. We will be doing a few car boot / garage sales etc to raise as much as we can as a start.

Please support us
Follow our progress
Check out our website and blog or follow us on Facebook as we set out on this adventure. See how the fund raising is going, and once we are there find out what life is like at YWAM Perth. The website also gives more detail about the FCM course and why we want to do it. Our website www.hattonheartbeat.weebly.com

Pray
Do you pray? We do and we believe in the power of prayer. Please pray especially for our kids that this would be a great experience for them. Chris has been a 'missionary kid' so knows what it can be like.

The summary
As a family we are heading to Perth, Western Australia to attend a Youth With A Mission course called Foundations for Counselling Ministry. The course is fulltime and runs from 6 October 2013 to 22 March 2014. We need prayer and financial help to make it happen. All up it is going to cost us about $4710/2826 plus rent and outreach. Thanks for your prayers and help! With all our love

A final thought
After Perth we will return to Canberra at the end of March 2014. Chris will go back to his job, providing there is still work coming in for his company, and Carol and the kids to playgroups etc. We do have dreams for the future which involve re-locating back to the UK before the end of 2014, but more about that will have to wait for a different newsletter at a later date. Well just tease you with that thought for now!
