Dearly Beloved of God,

Greetings to you all in the Name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
In the May newsletter I wrote to you about the talents. God has placed in you and
how he expects you to use them brining glory to God. Please bear in mind that each
of us is possessed of talents of some nature, and the need to allow God to develop it
to its potential.
God given talents can be anything which when developed to its full potential must
ultimately bring him the giver- Glory.
Several years ago Pastor Brian Houston of the Hillsong Church preached an
outstanding message about Using whats in your hand to establish whats in your
heart. Sports people, business people and others were encouraged that their love
for God and the desire to serve Him could be outworked in their sphere of influence
and were encouraged to excel. It was a mindset changing message at the time of his
church, releasing many people to pursue success in whatever it was that they were
gifted in and as a result of their gifting and effort and to do it for Gods glory.
Now, many years on it has become a second-nature to this church to understand
that each member have gifts and talents , passions and tools in their believers hands
that they can use to achieve what is that God has placed in their heart.
Many of us have talents of some nature to use it for His glory, until we tap into our
resources and enable the Lord to develop it, it will forever remain dormant.
Joyce Meyer in one of her messages said she was very poor in conversing with others
in English. Today she is a most sought after evangelist around the world. Bear in mind
all cannot become preachers, teachers, pastors, musicians leaders etc.
Unless you seek him and find out what you are good at, and develop it to its full
potential bringing glory and honour to God, we cannot be said to have pleased him.
May God cause you to seek him earnestly in order that you, use the God given gift to
its full potential thereby Gods Name alone be glorified.
Blessings
Pastor Srikanthan.

We all know that the Holy Bible which we read and treasure consists of 66 books written by 40
inspired authors. Out of the 66 books, we know the Old Testament has 39 books and the New
Testament 27 books. Out of the 27 books, in the New Testament, there are 21 letters or Epistles,
written by different apostles. 13 out of the 21 Epistles are written by Apostle Paul called Pauline
letters. Out of the remaining 7, two were written by the half-brothers of Jesus, namely James and
Jude. That involves a bit of maths isnt it!
The book of James is given a lot of importance for many reasons. It is supposed to be the earliest
written book of the New Testament. It is also compared to the book of Proverbs of the Old
Testament, because it gives practical advice for everyday living.
Unlike the Epistles of Paul which were written to the non-believers and new believers, The letter of
James is addressed to the Christians. It is a short letter of only five chapters written specially to
the generation of the 12 tribes of Israel which is mentioned in the Old Testament so many times.
James also uses in his teaching, parables as Jesus said. Like Jesus, his emphasis is on faith. Faith is
the substance of his teaching. Though the name of Jesus is not mentioned many times, his letter is
fully based on the teaching of Jesus.
As we study the book of James, we know that he refers many times to the book of Deuteronomy,
Chapters 4 and 7 about keeping the commandments given to Moses. He makes us understand
that the teachings of Jesus are also based on the 10 commandments.
James epistle is on Faith in Action. We should show our faith in action. Taking steps of faith in our
daily life is what James emphasises. Faith in action is what identifies us as followers of Christ. The
walk and talk of a Christian should identify him as a follower of Christ. It is easy to talk about faith
but doing good in the name of Christ speaks better. An action talk louder than words is what
James talks about. Abraham is the outstanding example of faith in action when he laid down his
son Isaac on the altar of firewood and stretched his knife to slay him.
James comparison of our tongue to a rudder of the ship and fire is a beautiful parable that Jesus
himself used many times in his teaching. James emphasises on controlling our tongue and anger in
our life. Sin is another subject he speaks about. How sin causes destruction in life.
The book of James also tells us the difference between testing and tempting. Testing is from God
to make our faith stronger and vibrant. But Temptation is from the enemy to make us fall into the
pit of sin. The often quoted verse on prayer is from James 5:16. The effective fervent prayer of
the righteous man availeth much. Faith in action, confession, patience and prayer are the
practical advice James speaks of. And Jesus sermon on the mount is very obvious in the book of
James
