ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES FOR ASSIGNMENT HPGD2103 GUIDANCE & COUNCELLING LECTURER: DR KHAMSIAH ISMAIL TASK 1 (55 Marks) The

The length of the assignment should be in between 15 and 20 pages including reference. You may choose either Person-Cantered Theory or Behaviourist Theory. You may also choose the combination of both theories which in counselling we called eclectic. However you have to justify and explain why at one stage you use a particular theory and at another stage you use other theory(ies). You must also support your explanation by including proper references and citation (the name of the writer or researcher and the year must be stated). Start with background, i.e. the information about Adrian, followed by a brief opinion about Adrian presenting problems. Also include the followings: i. ii. iii. iv. Objectives of counselling session. Description of the stages and important element that need to be considered. Rationales of the theory(ies) and approach(es) that you choose. The necessity to develop therapeutic relationship, trust and confidentiality. How and why? Support your answer with: i. ii. iii. Verbal interaction, which occurred as part of counselling process. Relevant counselling theories and approaches. Research and findings related to the problem.

TASK 2 (15 Marks) A mock counselling situation (30 minutes) between you (counsellor) and Adrian (client). In the form of dialogue between the two of you. As for the dialogue, you may refer in the module (Topic 3: Communication Skills). Relate the dialogue to the theory that you choose.
