Question 11

a. Design a suitable source document for ads that are telephoned or mailed in.

b. Suggest at least four user interface design guidelines that could be used for the new system.
1. Focus on the objective and maintain display inertia along the screen 2. Icons, colors, texts, and buttons should be consistent across all screens. 3. Use large ratio of visual representations instead of textual representation.

4. Show warnings where needed. Forms fields should be organized as user expectations, like password text should be hidden as bullets, or proper format for phone number.

c. Suggest several types of controls that might be used on the switchboard you plan to design. Explain why you chose each control, and create a storyboard that shows the switchboard layout.
1. Textbox:
A text control creates a text box that is used for a single line of input. This control has two attributes: size and maxlength. Size determines the number of characters that are displayed on the form. Maxlength determines the maximum length of the input field.

2. Combobox:
Another type of input control is the combo box that displays the current selection from the list of choices. When a user clicks a down arrow; it displays the list of choices that users are entered in it. The drop- down list box displays the current selection; when the user clicks the arrow, a list of the available choices displays. (Shelly & Rosenblatt, 2012) This input control method is used when there are only a specific number of choices to be made.

3. Radio button:
Radio button creates a list item. It indicates only one item in the list can be chosen.

4. Toolbar:
A toolbar contains icons or buttons that represent shortcuts for executing common commands.

5. Command button:

Command buttons initiate an action such as printing a form or requesting Help.

6. Dialog box:
A dialog box allows a user to enter information about a task that the system will perform.

7. Check Box:
Check boxes are used when the user has to select one or more options from set of alternatives.

Question 12
a. Write a brief memo to Tammy explaining the importance of data validation during the input process.
Data validation is important because it is used to test input data and forces user to complete or correct input fields. An error message will appear, if input field are not complete or contains an

error. Users can identify errors in a user form and correct them according to the instructions provided by data validation checks.

b. Suggest at least three specific data validation checks that might help reduce input errors.

1. Length checks that are used to specify the maximum length of the input field. Range checks specify to select the value within a range of minimum and maximum value. 2. Data types checks specify which data types are allowed to enter, whether numeric or string type. 3. Password matching checks allow user to enter same password in a Enter Password and Enter Confirm Password input field.

c. Would a batch input system offer any advantages? Write a brief memo to Tammy stating your views.
Using batch input, data entry is performed on a specified time schedule, such as daily, weekly, monthly, or longer. Although batch input is used in specific situations, most business activity requires online input. Online input offers immediate validation and availability of data.A popular online input method is source data automation, which combines online data entry and automated data capture using input devices such as magnetic data strips, or swipe scanners.
