Memory as information process Three process of memory Encoding- is the process of transforming sensory input or information received into

code so that the nervous system can process it. We basically use our senses sight, hearing, touch, taste, temperature and others. a. Acoustic codes- when we try to remember something by saying it out loud, or to ourselves, repeatedly. b. Visual code/semantic codes- when we try to keep a mental image of the object we make out some meaning of the object in order to remember it. Storage- information is maintained or saved over a period of time. The amount of information that is stored is dependent on the amount of effort employed in encoding the information, as well as on its importance. Information can remain in storage for a few seconds or for much longer. Retrieval- the process of bringing to mind that which has been stored in memory. Memory is seldom an accurate record of what really happened because there might be a faulty encoding, storing and retrieving. These process are interrelated. Incorrect encoding will badly affect storing and retrieving.
