Dear Country Essay

Dear Country by Bino Realuyo

The essay has quite an interesting introduction. It was short, catchy and easily caught the readers attention. It also aroused the readers curiosity and left the reader asking, Whats next? According to Old Dominion University, something subjective is based on an individuals opinion or interpretation of facts. Something objective is based on facts and is unbiased.

In the seventh paragraph, the subject is how the author felt a sense of belonging when he returned to the Philippines. The linguistic elements in the paragraph would be the following: enveloped in smog; graceful movements in brown; Manila came to life; heavenly grace; thousands of faces that walked the streets everyday enveloped in smog; and language like music, almost. This paragraph is subjective since it appeals to the authors emotions and senses.

In the tenth paragraph, specifically from From around to glittering fabrics, the subject is how immigrants in Manhattan cope with being homesick. The different linguistic elements found in this paragraph are the following: the smell of Filipino food; Home, for a moment, is romantic and superficial; parading in sayas and barongs; emotions in a gathering of brown faces; a day of glittering flags; sounds in music and gossip, sights in costumes and flags. Like the first paragraph, this one is also subjective as it appeals to the authors feelings and emotions.

The selection was very emotional, heartwarming, touching and well written. The authors love-hate relationship with our country charmed the readers. It left them proud to have the Philippines as our homeland. The essay appealed precisely to Filipino readers emotions because it was written in a way that Filipinos could associate with. The tone of the passage made us feel the pains the author felt like deciding on ones true homeland, and how to deal with homesickness and immigration. It left the readers with an array of emotions. These made the composition really interesting.
