Establish formal relationships with schools to ensure supports in families as a whole. When family violence is suspected where does it get reported? Education on matter needs to be taught in school at an early age. Perhaps a class on social issues. Activity based group sessions. Make a program that is recognized for jobs about engaging in social/media issues. Great idea I feel small towns and multi-generational families are the worst for turning a blind eye. Isnt this already being done as in their last Vital Signs project?

Inform others that help exists and that its okay to ask for it. It will help to lessen the degree of violence if it does occur. Much more awareness and more often needs to be incorporated into the school system. I say more often because doing so only once or twice a year it can be forgotten easier. Get it into their lovely ever expanding brains young, young, young! Learning behaviours start young, so, perhaps K-6 programs in schools to encourage respectful behaviour. Extremely important. Girl on girl emotional violence, parent accountability, where do you go when you witness violence, school accountability. Educate girls and boys about what constitutes violence in relationships. Also on R-5 - First relationship experiences happen as youth. Establishing safe/respectful relationship skills as youth is extremely important. Boys develop a boys dating violence program I support this, develop stronger relationship with schools, hire representation on the team. Education and information sharing open discussion is key Also on #2 Engage youth in other ways they can express their anger. Will help give tools to support prevention. I think this is extremely important to have youth involved or because it can prevent them of being in violent or possibly being violent in a relationship, especially if they grew up around violence. Starting with youth is key; Stop it before it starts. First relationship experiences happen as youth. Establishing safe/respectful relationship skills as youth is extremely important. Somehow coordinate the youth group

The difficulty of being a teen and appearing to be wrong or different by their peers. Education and information sharing is key Its important for men and boys to understand the impact of any abuse including verbal. More confidential programs geared for boys, young men, of men would be so important in raising awareness, to help them break the cycle. Extremely important to make young males aware of violence to women. Excellent goal who delivers these programs and how will determine success. Men need to be part of the change (take responsibility for their actions). We cannot simply rely on women to be taking defensive or reactive action. Engage men and boys. How to mgt. times strategies etc. Role models in the community, help young kids on what is right vs wrong. If the business in the community takes a stance then it shows a lot to the people in town. Engage men: facebook page /

Churches such as St. Andres V.C and Centre for Peace has or had welcome program. This would be great idea for the newly arrived people because they need to be aware theres support for them and help. Why not all newly arrived to Golden. A Welcome Wagon program for newly arrived to Canada women and men is key for sure. If o ne grows up in violence and doesnt know any better, then how can they Break the Cycle We are a nation and free speech. New Members to the community need to know where to turn for help. The need for a safe place in a foreign town/country is really important. The tension of wanting to keep the old ways and joining a new country Violence against women in Sikh and South Asian communities *especially re women brought to Canada/Golden through arranged marriage is a chronic issue! Were told they deal with it internally and they do through silence oppression Organize sessions meeting with women only try to separate from the male figures as much as possible Although the role of women has dramatically improved over the years, chauvinism is still alive and well and gender slurs are common. Children exposed to that develop attitudes as they get older. More outdoor-based activities make it interactive Engage in more outdoor group activities that incorporates discussions on social matters. /

World Caf perhaps campaign with table tent cards at the local cafes questions and discussion ideas. A World Caf was previously organized by Monica De I think an article in the local townie would be a great outlet, perhaps a radio show plug, things that aid in getting out to the whole. Its important for the community to know what resources are available if someone becomes aware of a situation, eg . neighbour Safety is two sided with councilors and police or law protection. Privacy in the courthouse. First Responses to incidence of violence are key this is where it can all fall apart or women feel supported while making decisions. This is very important since under stress she doesnt know where to turn and she may be afraid to call the police. Make important # brochure and checklist with names on board /
