AUDITION SCRIPT AND FORMAT Roles There are SIX prominent roles, with the importance of a near ensemble

cast. There are THREE leads, and THREE supporting leads. Supporting leads have less singing to do. We are looking for people with solid language skills at the very minimum. If you dont but still perform spectacularly, well try to hammer it into you during practices assuming you get through.

Leads Chris (Male): Hes nave. He aspires to do well in life, and is diligent enough to work for what he wants. He tries hard to help his friends if they require it. Not the brightest tool in the shed. Personality ESFP. Sera (Female): She has lost her passion for life, and has grown to be cold and inconsiderate of others, May be condescending at times. Shes basically a shell of who she used to be. Personality ISFP. Grace (Female): Shes the girl-next-door in love. Most of the time. Sweet, caring, intuitive, shy. The works. You know, standard female lead stuff. She tends to be calm, but can break under tension. Personality INFP.

Supporting Leads Alex (Male): Hes the witty, charming, and charismatic rogue/leader. Knows when and how to have fun, but can turn off the fun switch and become serious when needed. Older Character. Personality ENTJ. Elena (Female): She can be a nag at times, but she means well. Shes also sarcastic, but businessoriented. A mother figure, generally. Older Character. Personality ESTJ. John (Male): Hes the ultimate bro. Hell take a bullet for you, bail you out of trouble, take you to places youve never been before. Yet, ultimately, everyone knows hes just a supporting character. Personality ENFP.

PS: Please audition for the correct gender. I dont believe MCKL allows cross-dressing. PSS: It is recommended to Google the personality types to understand the thought flow of the character. PSSS: This is NOT the real script/characters. Its a script double. Similar characters, but different. PSSSS: Keep in mind its best to know the character through and through. Scroll down to see why. PSSSSS: Haha, made you look! PSSSSSS: Im just doing this for fun now. PSSSSSSS: Seriously, just go to the next page already.

Audition Format: Interaction Dialogues In this segment, youre to interact with one of the peeps on the panel as your chosen character. Your actions, reactions, voice acting and body language will be gauged here. Feel free to improvise on the dialogue as you feel appropriate, but keep it along the same line. If possible, try to decrease the number of las and mas in your speech. Monologues In this segment, youre to act out the monologue of your chosen character. Crucial areas here are your voice acting, emotions/expressions, and sense of timing along with diction. ONLY THE LEAD CHARACTERS REQUIRE MONOLOGUES. Improvisation This is where it gets interesting. Well present to you a scenario, and the panel may even join in. We want you to act out what your character would act/react in such a situation. This tests your understanding of your character first and foremost, along with your stage confidence and ability to keep character. Vocals Whats a musical without singing? Every prominent role will be given at least one song, and were assuming youre trying out for one! Let us know your voice range, or your part, if you know them. Come prepared with a song that can showcase your vocals, for approximately 15-30 seconds (preferably a verse and a chorus). Also, youll have to match a few notes! :3 Interview Just a short one. Simple questions. No, were not letting you prepare for this other than letting you know its there.

*TAKE NOTE, USAGE OF VULGAR LANGUAGE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED DURING IMPROVISATION. The approximate time per person is estimated to be around 5-15 minutes. We may or may not ask in this order. If youre more comfortable with a particular order, be sure to let us know. So we can make you do it in a different one. Nah, I kid. If youre more comfortable with it, let us know and you can do it in that order. Were nice like that.

Interactive Dialogue In this segment, youre to interact with one of the peeps on the panel as your chosen character. Your actions, reactions, voice acting and body language will be gauged here. Feel free to improvise on the dialogue as you feel appropriate, but keep it along the same line. If possible, try to decrease the number of las and mas in your speech. Yes, I copy-pasted. So sue me. That aside, there are two interactions for each character. They are RECYCLED. Trying out for character A means character A and B will share one interaction, and A and C will have another. These two interactions are SHARED between characters. This means that character B will have the same interaction as character A, but may have their second interaction with character D. Whatever it is, learn both. Look for where your characters name is. There are two that you need to know. Remember that it is NOT RIGID. Youre not even required to memorize anything other than the flow/plot of the conversation. Make whatever you wish of the interactions. *Some parts of the dialogue will not flow naturally. Fill them in with the actions that you deem appropriate. (E.g. Sighing, laughing, awkward silences, whatever) Heck, if you want to bring props into the question (such as sitting on a chair, or slumping against a wall, on the phone, whatever), feel free to do so! *Keep in mind were considering the ENTIRE interaction, even when youre not doing the talking!

Chris and Sera (Sera walks in late and sits down without an apology. This isnt the first time shes kept everyone waiting. After tolerating this for weeks, Chris finally explodes into rage.) Chris: What is wrong with you? Youre never here on time, and whenever you finally arrive, you never apologize! You DO realize youre late by over an hour, right? Sera: So? Chris: So? Thats all you can say? No sorry, or my bad, just so? Sera: Whats your point? If all you want is an apology, then I apologize. Now leave me alone. Chris: I dont think so. Youre holding everyone back, Sera! If you hate all of this so much then why not just quit? Its better than dragging down the rest of us! Sera: Shut up. Chris: What, cant handle the truth? Are you that inconsiderate that you dont even realize what youre doing? Sera: I said SHUT UP! You dont know anything! You dont have the right to say anything! JUST SHUT UP!

Chris and John (Chris is meeting John for the first time.) John: Hey, you, new guy! Chris: Me? John: No, the other new guy who joined up with you! Chris: Oh. Wait, theres another new guy here? John: No. Dude, are you always this slow? Chris: Huh? John: Nevermind. So, whats your name? Chris: Chris. John: Right. Im John. Anyway, you wanna join me for drinks later? Since youre new, Ill pay this time around. Youll have to get the next though. Chris: Uh I dont take alcohol well. I kinda have a low tolerance. And besides I think Im underage. John: You THINK? Chris: Im kinda confused about the legal drinking age Is it 18 or 21 again? John: Dude.

Sera and Elena (Elena is trying to get Sera to do something. Sera doesnt feel like doing it) Elena: Sera. Sera: Please dont start, Elena. Not today. Elena: I dont see whySera: Please. Elena: You have an appointment in two hours, remember?

Sera: Cancel it. Elena: You know I cant do that. Sera: Then just postpone it to another day. Im not in the mood for it today. Elena: Thats the issue, isnt it? Youre NEVER in the mood to work anymore. If you keep this up, youre going to get into trouble, Sera! Sera: Whatever. Im not going. Elena: Fine! But let me be clear; This is the last time Im doing this. I cant keep covering for you anymore. Sera: Mm.

Grace and John (Grace is troubled. John tries to talk to her to find out whats wrong) John: Grace, youve been rather off lately. Whats up? Grace: Oh, its you, John. Hey. John: You alright? Youre not hurt or anything? Grace: No, Im not. And well, it depends on your definition of alright. John: Now I KNOW theres a problem. Whats going on? Grace: Its nothing. I meanwell I. uh. John: Cmon, spit it out. You in love or something? Grace: What? NO! I mean John: You are, arent you? Its him, isnt it? Grace: How did you Was I being that obvious? John: Well kinda. Grace: Really? Does he know? John: Him? Hes the least observant idiot that Ive ever had the pleasure of knowing. I think your secrets safe. Grace: Hes not an idiot! Well okay, maybe so. But still!

Grace and Alex (Grace is meeting Alex face to face for the first time. Hes offering her a job. Shes feeling nervous. (as in interview nervous)) Grace: Um, good morning, sir! Alex: Hey, just call me Alex, like everyone else. Grace: Alright, uh Mr. Alex. Alex: Oh, just drop the Mr. It makes me feel old. I dont even have kids yet! Grace: Yes, sir! I mean, Alex. Alex: Well, thats progress, at least. Anyway, Ive looked at your portfolio. Some of the stuff there are really impressive. Have any been licensed? Grace: Uh, no, sir. Alex: Thats good. Well let that sir slide for now. Back to the interview. What are your dreams? Grace: Well I love teaching kids. But well some things just arent meant to be, I guess. Right now, it just seems impossible. Alex: Maybe not. Id like to see you teaching a few times before I write you off from that avenue, but how about doing something else for now?

Alex and Elena (Alex and Elena have just finished discussing something important. They are about to part ways.) Elena: I think thats all, Alex. Ill see you tomorrow. Alex: Over drinks, perhaps? I know this fantastic bar downElena: AlexAlex: Okay, fine, no alcohol. Will a cup of coffee entice you into keeping me company, though? Elena: Perhaps. I really need to get going. Alex: Need a lift? Elena: I appreciate the offer, but I drove today. Thanks though. Alex: Anytime. (Elena leaves) Damn it.

Monologues In this segment, youre to act out the monologue of your chosen character. Crucial areas here are your voice acting, emotions/expressions, and sense of timing along with diction. They do not need to be verbatim. ONLY THE LEAD CHARACTERS (Chris, Sera, Grace) REQUIRE MONOLOGUES. Chris -HopeYou know, Id like to do that one day. Just reach for the stars. But even I know its not that simple. Life doesnt just hand whatever you want to you on a silver platter. You gotta work for it, and even then, sometimes its still not enough. But you know what? Im not through with this yet! Somehow, I know that everything will turn out okay. Its just this feeling I have, but sometimes, you just have to trust your gut. Ill give it another shot. Ill succeed this time, I know I will! And well, even if I dont, Ill keep trying again and again! CHRIS ALLEN DOES NOT GIVE UP!

Sera -DespairThe last of my hopes have vanished with the wind. The final light has been snuffed out. I am out of hope, out of faith, out of trust. I have nothing left. I envy those who do. What reason is there to exist? What reason is there to struggle in this desolate world only for disappointment after disappointment to occur? My answer is simple. None. Some time ago, I came to the conclusion whereby the world is simply a stage, and that we are all actors. Rehearsing and performing the same script over and over again, until the scene of our life in the span of eternity ends. I refuse to be subject to such torture any longer. No. Not anymore. I quit.

Grace -LoveWhats wrong with me? I mean, I cant even think straight around him anymore. Does this mean I like him? As in, like-like him? As in, lov- Dont even go there, Grace. Its like I just, I just Why is this happening? Why now? Why him? So many questions, why arent there any answers? Okay just calm down, Grace, and well work this out. How do I feel about him? Well I care about him. I worry about him. I want to spend time with him. I want to hold his hand. I want to talk to him all the time. I think about him every day andI think Im in love.

Improvisation This is where it gets interesting. Well present to you a scenario, and the panel may even join in as we see fit. We want you to act out what your chosen character would act/react in such a situation. This tests your understanding of your character first and foremost, along with your stage confidence and ability to keep character under pressure. First off, the above excerpt is edited. Bet you didnt notice. Anyway, the improvisation segment is going to be fun! The panel will join in as they feel like it, and you have to react to their actions as well. You may decide who our characters are as we join in (AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IT GENDER-APPROPRIATE) unless weve specified who our character is and what were doing. Dont worry about this portion too much. Were going to be improvising too. And trust me, were not the greatest actors. We wouldnt be asking you to audition if we were. Well try our best, though.

:3 Generally, youll want to showcase your magnificent voice. The LEADS especially will have to be stronger in this area. We have our obvious reasons, and our not-so-obvious ones. Were looking for these ranges for our characters. HOWEVER, these are just preferred ranges, you wont be barred if you dont have the appropriate voice range. However, on the event of a tie, we will pick the one with the preferred choice. Males Chris: Tenor Alex: Any John: Tenor/Baritone Females Sera: Any Grace: Mezzo Soprano/Soprano Elena: Alto/ Mezzo Soprano Try to be emotive as you sing, no one likes a stale song in a musical. Remember, we only need a chorus or a verse, so pick a song that can exhibit your strengths! Keep in mind there will be a short technical bit involved. Dont worry, it wont be difficult at all. Really. I mean it. Dont worry. In fact, forget I mentioned it. Forget it. (Im sure you cant now)

Tips KEEP IN MIND that the Interaction Dialogues are incomplete. You need to fill them up with expressions, emotions, and actions on your own. We will gauge you based on this. If certain interactions seem strange to you, try looking at it from a different angle. Sometimes there are elements in each interaction that arent obvious. If you feel as if your character is lacking an action/reaction, please fill in as you see fit. Youll probably get bonus points for characterization if its deemed appropriate. We will try to follow up, of course. Monologues can be difficult to pull off. Method acting may help you here. Doubly so for improvisations. It may be helpful to know the other characters interaction dialogue. You may get a glimpse of the other characters traits, and can thus react accordingly. If we feel you have the potential to play another role than what youve originally auditioned for, we will let you know. You may be called back or given time to learn about the other character. Then you can audition with the (new) character should you choose to. INITIATIVE is everything in these auditions. Do whatever you can to epitomize your character. The most important thing were looking for is CHARACTERIZATION. Make the character your own. Within reason, of course. Feeling nervous? Good. Get used to it. Youre going to need to build your stage confidence by the musical. Not feeling nervous? Fantastic. We expect a good audition from you. Dont think. Feel. Insert random tip here.

All the best to everyone auditioning! May the odds be ever in your favour. Too mainstream? Nah. Well stick with it. Adios, and good luck!
