145 OFFICE HOURS: I am here every morning before school and after school to help students. I would also be happy to give help by phone from my home (801-768-4455). COURSE SUMMARY: In this class we will keep improving our skills in all areas of Spanish: grammar, speaking, listening, reading, and writing. This focus will help prepare you for the AP Spanish Language Exam in May. To achieve this goal, we will be working daily in the five areas mentioned above. We will also be doing specific practices for the AP Spanish Language exam so that you are very familiar with it before taking the exam. Class will be held in Spanish for approximately 100% of the time. We will also have oral presentations once a term. NEEDS FOR THIS CLASS: 1) one 1-inch, 3-ring binder, 2) four dividers, 3) a pen or pencil, 4) your Spanish book (Temas), and 4) una actitud positiva. *In the binder you will keep your assignment list, notes, verb charts, comparison/contrast ideas list, and other items that we will cover in class. GRADES: Your grade will be based on the following: a. tests and quizzes = 20% d. class participation and speaking only Spanish= 20% b. class work = 15% e. oral presentations and speaking assignments= 15% c. homework = 30% The grading scale is as follows: A 94-100 B+ 87-89 B- 80-83 A- 90-93 B 84-86 C+ 77-79 C 74-76 D+ 67-69 CD 70-73 64-66 D- 60-63 F 0-59

*SPEAKING ONLY SPANISH: Each day you will give yourself a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 or a 0. A 5 is if you put forth your best effort in speaking Spanish that day, speaking 90-100% in Spanish. A 4 is 75-89%. A 3 is 60=74%. A 2 is 45-59%, A 1 is 25-44% and a 0 is 0 to 24%. At the end of each class you will report this score to me. CHEATING: I have a zero-tolerance policy for cheating. If you are caught cheating on anything, you will receive a zerono exceptions. If you give someone answers or are attempting to help someone on a test, you will receive a zero. Helping another student understand something is fine, but giving answers is not. CITIZENSHIP AND DISCIPLINE. I expect great things from each of my students, especially in advanced Spanish students. I expect politeness to each member of the class, including the teacher. Not using cell phones or other electronic devices is part of this politeness. If you use these in my classroom, I will take the device from you until the next class period, I will call your parents, and they will need to come to the office to get it back. If you need to text your mom or someone, ask me for permission (en espaol) and I will probably let you. We will also use cell phones in class at times for

class activities. ATTENDANCE: Attendance is required. Punctuality is required. We follow the American Fork High School attendance policy. For an absence to be excused, a parental excuse must be phoned in or brought to the attendance office within TWO class periods. After the absence has been excused, makeup work may be done for full credit. You must make up the work within the amount of time that you were gone. For example, if you were gone one day, you have one day to make up the work. If you were gone two days, you have two days to make up the work. Work missing from truancies or unexcused absences may not be made up. School-excused absences must be cleared with me in advance AND all work must be made up within one week after you return to school. LATE WORK/MAKE-UP WORK: I do accept late work, but you will receive 50% credit for it. I will give you one late pass, which will allow you to turn in one assignment late for full credit. Please turn everything in the day it is due. Also, if you are gone for a quiz or a test with an unexcused absence, you will receive a zero. The best way to avoid not turning in work is to come to class every day. I understand that there are school activities that take students away from class and that illness also causes students to miss class. When you have an excused absence, you have one week after you return to get everything turned in. It is up to you to find out what you missed while you were gone. If you miss a test or a quiz for an excused reason, you will need to set up at time with me to make it up within a week after you return. The most important part of this section is communication. Talk to me. EXTRA CREDIT: I do allow a little extra credit and I will announce what it is. Sometimes it is writing something. Sometimes it is participating in an extra activity. At Christmas time it is bringing in cans of food. I will announce these opportunities. ----------------------------------------------------------------------IF YOU PREFER TO SIGN THIS PAPER RATHER THAN SIGN THE ELECTRONIC DISCLOSURE DOCUMENT, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO.
