Hello again, as I sit here writing this with the rain coming down and looking back at everything that has happened in July is it too soon to say summer is over? It has certainly been a exceptional month in many ways. The heat arrived in time to set up for the show on the 6th, many new issues caused by the need to accommodate a bigger show, more cars and more traders and attractions. At the closing date for entries it was an approx 50/50 split between individual entries and the 21 club's that entered and these were joined on the day with 85 late entries giving a total of about 630 vehicles. The hot weather continued on the Sunday and brought out over 3500 paying adults on the gate which together with children and exhibitors must mean over 5000 on the site. They spent well and with a few bills still to be sorted we are looking at a record charity fund to be distributed this year of between 13 -14,000. So to all our members and their friends and families who helped over the weekend a very big thank you. In addition to the feedback forms on the website there will be a chance to discuss the show at the August club night. So far we have 19 applications for funds covering a wide range of causes from all across the region. A note re further applications will be elsewhere in this newsletter and we hope to make some decisions on donations at the August committee. The following week 21 members went to the MGOC 40th anniversary at Swavesey and despite the heat enjoyed a range of attractions, including a run, visits to Cambridge and the show itself.

A Saturday run was organised by Emma & Katrina with a morning start and an excellent lunch break at The Oak Inn. This gave some the chance to leave and others to join before the afternoon leg that ended at the Morwick Farm ice cream parlour. Thank you both. Sadly the month has ended with death of Peter Ebdon, Chairman of the MGCC Tyne Tees Centre. Peter had been ill for some time but was working on the MGCC exhibitors for Corbridge until a couple of weeks before the show. He was a great supporter of the MG marque and on having a good relationship between our clubs.

As you know, the Corbridge Car Show was our most successful to date and the committee now has the task of deciding where the proceeds should go. Whilst we already have a number of requests we would like to ensure that we are aware of any other places where these might be needed. Do YOU know of any organisation needing funds that meet our criteria? i.e. 1) 2) funds are needed to buy a specific piece or pieces of equipment The organisation is locally run

If you do, please e - mail your suggestion to Tim or mention it at clubnight.

No. 578 Beer Wagon MG Northumbria was again represented at Le Mans this year with Les Davison and myself both present, although unfortunately Pam couldnt make it this time. Also there was my son Peter making his fourth trip. Travelling down in his MGTF, Les decided to take only the bare essentials. As you can see this consisted of beer plus (allegedly) a change of underwear. But see what one of our Danish friends took! Well, attending Le Mans can be a thirsty business! This was, I think, the 23rd time for Les at Le Mans with me a comparative novice with only 10 consecutive visits. I well remember telling me in 2004 that this was addictive and how right he was! 8

Over the past few years our group has forged strong links with a group from Denmark which means that there are usually about 40 of us camping together. We have even been featured in the France Ouest newspaper! Of course, their hero is Tom Kristensen who has now won Le Mans nine times, a feat that will surely never be beaten. Indeed, six of his wins were consecutive. The Danes joy was, however, tempered by the sad news that another Danish driver, Allan Simonsen, died after crashing his Aston Martin at Tetre Rouge in the first few laps of the race. Otherwise, as ever, a rollicking good time was had by all. We even had the spectacle of Les up on the podium with the dancers at the Tetre Rouge bar on the Friday night a sight not to be missed!
