Ziegler Course Syllabus Exploring Hospitality and Tourism Careers Whether you think you can or you think you cant, youre right. Henry Ford Course Description All hospitality students will learn to make informed decisions regarding their future academic and occupational goals, and explore information regarding the Hospitality and Tourism career cluster. The content of this class includes, but is not limited to, the management, marketing, and operations of restaurants and other food services, lodging, attractions, recreational events, and travel related services. Students will have the opportunity to practice ideas learned, in a project based, exploratory class. Course Objectives Upon completion of Hospitality and Tourism, it is desired that students will be able to: 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the career pathways listed below: -Restaurant and Food/Beverage Services -Lodging -Recreation -Amusements and Attractions -Travel and Tourism 2. Apply effective leadership and business communication skills (verbal and electronic) 3. Develop practical career preparation skills 4. Describe how information technology is used in the Hospitality and Tourism career cluster 5. Take part in class discussions using proper rules of etiquette 6. Complete assignments using the computer and other technology as instructed 7. Collaborate effectively with others 8. Demonstrate knowledge of global communities Expectations -Arrive to class on time and prepared -Respect others -Participate in classroom discussions -Follow directions the first time they are given -Give full attention to the person who has the floor -Be careful and respectful of technology equipment -Keep area neat at all times -Ask permission to leave seat -Follow pack up procedures (I will dismiss you, not the bell) -Maintain a positive attitude -Be open to the ideas of others -Adhere to dress code, the code of conduct, and all school and class rules everywhere on campus Consequences -Nonverbal signals/verbal warnings -Seat changes -Student/teacher conferences -Parent conferences/contacts -Student Services referrals, detention, and/or ISS as mandated by school and district officials -Suspension as mandated by school officials At Green Cove Springs Junior High, every student is a winner in some way everyday.

Students will participate in FCCLA during scheduled class meetings, and are encouraged to sign up to become a Gold member.
