Many people memorize

just the tan colored rows
from the table at left,
and find it's easy to "think" in db
even without a calculator.
Remember:
When power multiplies,
db just add.
When power divides,
db just subtract.
For example, a typical CDMA phone has
a maximum transmit power of 200 milliwatts.
How many db is this above 1 milliwatt?
200 mw is 10 x 10 x 2 milliwatts
This is 10 + 10 + 3 db, which is 23 db.
So the phone can transmit +23 dbm!
