PBIS Lesson: Overview of PRIDE (2 days)

Objectives and Goals: I can interpret the PRIDE Matrix. SAY: Ladies and Gentleman, for todays lesson you will need two pieces of paper and a pencil. Please get these items out on your desk and begin the free write.

Anticipatory Set: (5-8 min including discussion, place on board or project on slide) Free write: What is PRIDE? Why is it important at Githens?

Direct Instruction: (45 min) *The Blank Matrix should be displayed SAY: PRIDE stands for five character traits that everyone at Githens is to display at all times. SAY: What does the P in PRIDE stand for? (Answers will vary but make sure that you lead students to the correct answer Punctuality). What does being punctual mean? Answer: Being at the right place at the right time. SAY: We are now going to decide what punctuality looks like in the classroom/media center, hallway, cafeteria, restroom, bus/dismissal area, safety drills and bus. (As students share answers, record them on the board and fill in the projected PRIDE chart. Remind them to fill in their blank PRIDE matrices.) SAY: What does the R in PRIDE stand for? (Answers will vary but make sure that you lead students to the correct answer Respect). What does respect mean? Answer: Treating others the same way youd like to be treated. SAY: We are now going to decide what respect looks like in the classroom/media center, hallway, cafeteria, restroom, bus/dismissal area, safety drills and bus. (As students share answers, record them on the board and fill in the projected PRIDE chart. Remind them to fill in their blank PRIDE matrices.) SAY: What does the I in PRIDE stand for? (Answers will vary but make sure that you lead students to the correct answer Integrity). What does integrity mean? Answer: Doing what is right. SAY: We are now going to decide what integrity looks like in the classroom/media center, hallway, cafeteria, restroom, bus/dismissal area, safety drills and bus. (As students share answers, record them on the board and fill in the projected PRIDE chart. Remind them to fill in their blank PRIDE matrices.) SAY: What does the D in PRIDE stand for? (Student answers may vary but the correct answer is Dedication). What does dedication mean? Answer: Nothing less than your absolute best. SAY: We are now going to decide what dedication looks like in the classroom/media center, hallway, cafeteria, restroom, bus/dismissal area, safety drills and bus. (As students share answers, record them on the board and fill in the projected PRIDE chart. Remind them to fill in their blank PRIDE matrices.) SAY: What does the E in PRIDE stand for? (Student answers may vary guide students to the correct answer: Excellence). What does Excellence mean? Answer: striving for greatness.

Independent Practice (20 min): SAY: Ladies and Gentlemen, you will now work with a partner to complete an activity. You both will compare and contrast the PRIDE matrix that we just made to the Githens PRIDE matrix. Each partnership will complete a t-chart to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between the two charts. Required Materials and Equipment: Blank PRIDE Matrix Pencils/Paper PRIDE Matrix Projector T-Chart (Optional)

Closure (5 min): Review school cues and have students line up in school profile in preparation for dismissal.
