This study examined how foreign accents affect hiring decisions. Researchers had participants review resumes and listen to voicemails of applicants who either had strong American accents or strong foreign accents. Participants rated applicants with strong foreign accents as less hireable, competent, and suitable for management roles compared to identical applicants with American accents. The results suggest that foreign accents negatively impact employment-related decisions.
