Bridge the protection gap with Nestl Nestum and Nestl Cerelac cereals
When infants start a complementary feeding schedule from the age of six months, they experience a Protection Gap because the reserves of antibodies received in utero from the mother are decreasing the older they get. As the breastmilk supply diminishes, the baby is at a greater risk for infections which may impair optimal growth. Babies are increasingly exposed to environmental agents responsible for common childhood illnesses. Furthermore, the immune system is still maturing and has only fully matured when the baby is about four years old. The Nestl Nestum and Nestl Cerelac infant cereals range now contains the Protective Hug of Bifidus BL, a probiotic that has been clinically proven to maintain a healthy gut flora and reinforce the gut barrier. Bifidus BL enhances the immune response, reduces the incidence of diarrhoea and helps the gut flora to recover after antibiotic treatment. Nestl Nestum and Nestl Cerelac also contain Immunonutrients, a specific combination of important nutrients including Zinc, Iron, Vitamin A and Vitamin C. These contribute to the natural defenses by supporting physical barriers and cellular and humoral immunity, as well as reducing the severity and duration of diarrhoea. The introduction of solid food is a very important stage in a babys development the transition from breastmilk (or formula milk) to solid foods is an exciting and challenging time for both parents and babies. The right solid foods provide babies with all the vitamins and minerals he or she needs to grow and develop into a healthy child. Nestl NESTUM (when mixed with formula or breastmilk) and Nestl CERELAC (when mixed with water) are both nutritionally complete and are available in a wide variety of avours to suit the fussiest palate. Bifidus BL is now exclusively available in every box of new Nestl NESTUM and Nestl CERELAC products, helping to bridge the Protection Gap and continuing to strengthen natural defenses during the babys first years of life.
