Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King was born on January 15, 1929. His mother, Alberta Williams King, gave birth to him in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Martins dad, (Martin Luther King Sr,) was born on December 19, 1899. He married Alberta. Alberta was born in September 13, 1904. Martins name used to be Michael King. Then his father had baptized him and renamed him Martin. It was hard to grow up in a white world. Black people were treated like slaves. There were signs in front of shops and churches that said whites only. Martin had a strong voice. When he was 15 he entered a public speaking competition. He won and sat happily on a seat, on the bus going home. The bus filled up, so much there were no spare seats. The white driver ordered Martin and his teacher gave up their seats. Martin refused but then his teacher reminded hi the rule of whites before blacks.

Martin Luther King

In 1944, when Martin was 15, he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Seven years later, he then entered Boston University for graduate studies. Martin and Coretta Scott were married (by his father) on June 18, 1953. Coretta and Martin had four kids. They had two daughters Bernice and Yolanda. (March 28, 1963) (November 17, 1955) Martin rd and Coretta also had two sons. Dexter (January 30, 1961) and Martin Luther king Jr 3 (October 23, 1957) When King was 25, he joined the bus Boycott after Rosa Parks was arrested on December 1. On December 5, he was elected president of the Montgomery improvement Association, making the official spokesman for the Boycott. 1 year later on November 13, the Supreme Court rules that bus segregation is illegal, ensuring victory for the Boycott. In 1960, King became co-pastor with his father at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. In 1962, during the th unsuccessful Albany, Georgia movement, King was arrested on July 27 and is jailed. On June, 1963, MLK lead 125,000 people on a freedom walk in Detroit. In Washington D.C. Martin made his famous I have a dream speech.

To prove his point, King travelled over six million miles and spoke over twenty-five hundred times. In 1964 King experienced his first rejection by black people when he was stoned by black Muslims in Harlem. On December 10, 1964, King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Dr King is the youngest person to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the age of 35. Almost a year before on January 3, 1964, King appeared on the cover of Time Magazines as its Man of the year. Three years after his award, King announced about the inception of the poor peoples campaign focusing on jobs and freedom for the poor of all races. In 1968, Martin announces that Poor Peoples campaign will culminate in a March on Washington demanding a $12 billion Economic Bill of Rights guaranteeing employment to the ablebodied, incomes to those unable to work. King made many famous speeches like his I have a dream speech in Washington D.C. Not only did King make speeches but he also wrote a book. In response to a group of white clergymen who had criticized him, Martin Luther King wrote this response while being held in the Birmingham Jail in April 1963. He called it Letter from Birmingham Jail. On April 4, 1968, King is fatally shot while standing on the
balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee. Kings funeral was on April 9. It is an international event.
