February 26, 2008 Harris, R Laird. Factors promoting the formation of the Old Testament canon.

Bulletin of the Evangelical Theological Society 10 (1967): 21-27 Cited 24 February 2008. Online: http://infosvcs.lcu.edu In Factors promoting, it is obvious that R. Laird Harris believes that according to historic Christianity the Old Testament books were written by special divine inspiration. An interesting point that Harris makes is that the 200 B.C. dating for the canonization of the Prophets is brought into question with the new evidence of the Dead Sea Scrolls. He supports this by showing us the conflicting dates and the time periods when some of the books were quoted. The writer gives us different examples of when different people and groups believed that the Old Testament was canonized, in order to tell us in the end his belief that the Old Testament canon was formed as God spoke at different times throughout history. A target audience is any student looking to learn more and form their own opinion of when the Old Testament Canon was formed.
