The On-Bottom Stability is an analysis performed to examine jacket stability when it is first stood on the seabed at no pile condition. The jacket must be ensured to response the installation environmental loads with a stable manner during initial placement and at critical piling sequences. Evaluation of mudmat capacity as jacket temporary foundation also comprised. The main concern of OBS analysis is uncertainty of soil bearing capacity which is very important to be known so that the jacket will not suffer from failures. The failures may caused by overturning moment, sliding, or end bearing failure. The OBS analysis will result adequate safety factor to restrain the three failure modes. Bearing Failure The bearing failure occurred due to seabed subsidence as the result of the soil capacity, represented by soil stress soil, is smaller than the actual stress caused by acting forces act. The value of soil stress may be acquired either from the geotechnical surveyor or text book formula with some approaches. The actual stress then might be obtained by following formula: _act=F/A Where : F = total force acting on the jacket in vertical direction A = Effective area of mudmat The safety factor then counted by: SF=_soil/_act > SF _min (2.0 as per API standard)

Sliding Failure Sliding failure is occurr ed due to horizontal forces (FH) acting on the structure. The horizontal forces come from environmental loads such as waves, current, and wind. On the other hand, the jacket has friction force (ffr) on the bottom due to friction between mudmat and seabed surface. The jacket stability against sliding is provided if the friction force larger than horizontal forces and vice versa. The latter is known as sliding failure. The safety factor given by: SF=f_fr/F_H > SF _min (1.5 as per API standard)

Overturning Failure Both horizontal and vertical force acting on the jacket might have distance to the rotation point. The figure below describes the forces and their arm. The rotation point is shown by red dots. Multiplication of horizontal force and its lever arm m will result overturning moment. This moment will cause the jacket to rotate on the rotation point. In the same manner, multiplication of vertical force and its lever arm L will result restraining moment that tend to reverse jacket to its origin position. If the restraining moment lower than overturning moment then failure will follow. This kind of failure is known as overturning failure. Factor of Safety then is given by: SF=(F_ZL)/(F_Hm)> SF _min
