Fifth Grade Spanish Syllabus 2013-2014

Seora Ashley Angelovich aangelovich@csov.org Bienvenidos a la clase de espaol! Welcome to Spanish class! I am very excited to explore the language and culture of the Hispanic world with you. Our goals this year include improving listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish, as well as gaining an understanding of the Hispanic culture and traditions. This year we will cover the following: Introductions: describing yourself and others Places and events: getting around town, shops, school, restaurant, home Daily schedules and telling time Adjective and noun agreement/possessive adjectives and comparatives Expressing feelings Asking questions to get information Conjugating AR, -ER, -IR verbs in the present tense/stem-changing verbs Culture, traditions and holidays

Online Textbook with accompanying workbook: Realidades The following information will help you know more about classroom expectations: Materials You are responsible for bringing your textbook, workbook, Spanish folder, pencil/pen, and paper to class each day. Coming prepared to class counts toward your participation grade. Class Participation Speaking Spanish in class is essential for optimum success toward fluency in the language. Every day, you should do your best to actively participate in class. When working in groups, you are expected to speak Spanish, also. Participation counts as 15% of your trimester grade.

Homework You will have short homework assignments every week day, except for the evening after a test, and on weekends. At the beginning of class, we will go over your homework assignment. This provides the opportunity to ask questions about something you may not have understood. If you come to class without your

completed homework. Late homework assignments will lose five points each day they are late. Weekends are not included. Homework is 15% of your grade.

Note: It is your responsibility to get your make-up work after being absent. If you know you will be absent because of a planned family trip or event, you must get your work assignments before your absence.
Quizzes Throughout the year, you will have short quizzes to assess your progress with vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension. It will be your responsibility to prepare for each quiz. All quizzes will be announced. Quizzes count as 20% of your grade. Tests You will also have tests after mastering certain language skills, usually after completing a unit. Tests include listening and reading comprehension, cultural knowledge, and written composition. There will always be a thorough review in class before a test, but you will still be responsible for adequate preparation. Tests will count as 30% of your grade each trimester. Projects - During the trimester, projects and activities will be assigned. You will be able to work on these projects during class time and also during homework time. Projects count as 20% of your grade.
