7th grade pre AP English Mrs. D. J. Head, room 606

Welcome! As the prospect of an intriguing school year is upon us, the anticipation builds. It is my complete pleasure to share the learning process with the students and their families. Grading will be based on the mastery of Next Generation Sunshine State Standards and Common Core State Standards. His/her grade for each marking period will be based on formative and summative assessments. {For each assignment further explanation will be provided .} formative assessment: 10% These grades express the formation of subject knowledge required to show mastery of material on summative assessments. The primary focus of formative grading is to demonstrate a progression in the learning process. EXAMPLES OF FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT INCLUDE: daily work class work homework lesson quizzes bell work summative assessment: 85% - These assessments measure standard mastery over a period of time (usually a chapter or unit). EXAMPLES OF SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT INCLUDE: tests projects textually based written responses, such as essays cumulative: 5% - One final assessment at the end of each grading period is planned, which may be used to replace a low test grade during the course of the semester. grading scale 100 90: A 89 80: B

what is not graded The following are essential to the mastery of standards; however, these items are not graded. group work Students will be assessed individually when working within a group. participation during class discussion conduct reported separately on report card attendance reported separately on report card getting extra help: Ideally, I would prefer 100% of the students to complete every lesson the first time. Unfortunately, this does not always happen. I am available for individual and small group tutoring during the mornings prior to school from 7:45 until the bell rings. Often, school meetings and conferences are scheduled before school. Therefore, it is necessary for the students to arrange a time in advance if he/she needs additional help. This will help avoid conflicts with conferences and scheduled faculty meetings. notation: Re-assessments are available only after additional work is done to show mastery. Reassessments must be arranged within one week after receiving test grades. make-up work: It is the students responsibility to request and return any make-up assignments on time. Summative work not completed or made-up may result in an incomplete for the grading period. Please, refer to the student handbook in the planner for the Bay District Schools policy. Specific details will be provided during class instructions. classroom expectations: It is important for the students to be focused and engaged in order to achieve success for everyone. Here is a list of my expectations for our class: Be in class on time. Have a ready supply of paper, pencil sharpened, assignments ready to check and start bell work. Respect self, other students, teacher, and other adults on campus. consequences 1st offense verbal warning discuss policy 2nd offense and subsequent offenses parent contact and PBS documentation It is important to me that all stakeholders have the best possible school year!
