Animals have been perceived as pets since Antiquity.

As wolfs and dogs have been the first animals to be domesticated, they have become pets for humans, as cats became pets for ancient Egyptians. Humans have gained control over animals and created affectionate relations with them, becoming their pets. Nowadays people have as pets even the weirdest animals: wild boars, pigs, goats, lions, kunks and so on and they even consider them part of the family, a member. As a personal experience, I had to deal with a lot of animals, which became my pets. From the common cats and dogs, until ducks and rabbits. Living in a house and having a big yard allowed my family to keep many animals. I had many dogs and cats to whom I was very connects and I cared very much about each and every one of them. Once my mother bought me a little duck and for one month until she died she was my pet, because I had like a special connection with it. All day long I would play with it and talk to it. Then my parents brought home some rabbits; and, as with the little duck, one of the rabbits became my best friend and I would take care of it every day. I also had four birds one at a time and each and one of them was unique; one of them would only eat soup and nothing else, one of them would only stay on your head and so on. I also had a fish that I caught, a chinchilla and a hamster. All these animals have become my pets not only because I loved them, but also because I had a special connection with each of them; they offered me protection, they amused me when I was sad, they were near me when I wanted to talk, they were my friends unconditionally. People seek close relations to animals because they can make them happy, they can make them laugh, they can offer them protection, they can be guides, they can be a friend in some cases and they love you in their own way. I think that a person who never loved an animal, then that person never had a true friend.
