What is beauty? Beauty is a universal concept in which many people question to this day.

It is also questioned whether beauty is innate and therefore within us, or if it is learned throughout time and experiences. Beauty is subjective and ones perception of beauty is learned. Subjective beauty is based on how much pleasure is evoked through aesthetic experience. Firstly, everyone has his or her own personal tastes/opinions on what beauty exactly is. To back my argument up it said that the universal acceptance of a single aesthetic judgment is not possible. To prove my point David Hume once said, each mind perceives different beauty. This quotation basically states that every person thinks differently and it is not possible for everyone to share one opinion or idea. To add on to my argument, the rules of composition are not considered to be aesthetically beautiful to everyone. For example, the rule of thirds is used in photography to compose your image in thirds, which is considered to make the photo more aesthetically beautiful. However, not every single person will agree that the rule of thirds necessarily makes a photo more beautiful. In fact, some people enjoy more abstract looking pictures that do not follow any rules, which goes against the idea of objective beauty. Secondly, the perception of beauty is altered through observations and experiences. My first point states that the culture one is familiar with tends to sway ones aesthetic perception. For example, in Islam both woman and man agree that wearing a hijab is beautiful in the sense that it shows how a woman can be modest and pure. Immanuel Kant takes morality and aesthetics hand in hand very similarly to the example I provided involving Islam. He believes that beauty is a symbol of the morally good thus, if one acts aesthetically on moral grounds, then they (or their piece of art) is beautiful.
