Indication

Route and Administration Generic Name: Magnesium sulfate Produces seizure control. It blocks neuromuscular transmission, amount of Brand Name: acetylcholine released at the motor end plate. Magnesium sulfate is the treatment of choice for convulsion. It depressant action on the central nervous system (CNS) reduces the possibility of seizure.

Stock and Dosage:


Route of Administration: IV

Nursing Responsibilities:

Assess renal function, magnesium level. Test patellar reflex or knee jerk before giving repeat parenteral dose. Patellar reflex must be present, respiratory level

Assess for contraindicated conditions.- Monitor knee-jerk reflex before repeated parenteral Reserve IV use in eclampsia for life-threatening situations. Observe the 15 rights in drug administration. Do not administer if knee-jerk reflexes are suppressed. Maintain urine output at a level of 100 mL every 4 hr during parenteral administration

Route and Administration Generic Name: Betamethasone Controls rate of protein synthesis; decreases migration of Brand Name: polymorphonuclear leuckocytes, fibrolast; reverses capillary It is administered to the mother whose fetus has an immature lung profile.
