Description of hockey

You are only allowed eleven hockey players on the field from each team at one time.

An Olympic match will last for 70 minutes, two 35 minute halves with a 10 min break. For younger high school or club hockey its 60 minutes, two 30 minute halves with five minute break.

The dimensions of an average hockey field is 91.40 meters in length by 55 meters in width.

The aim of the field hockey game is to commit to improve your game. To improve youre your game you will need to commit to your game. To be able to dodge and dribble down the field is having the skill of field hockey. In field hockey, a goal is worth one point. The team with the most goals at the end of the match is awarded the winner. In order to be officially scored, a shot being scored must be taken within the goal circle. A ball struck from outside the goal circle that is deflected into the goal counts.

protective gear so if they get struck by a puck or a stick it wouldnt hurt as much.

Sweeper the sweeper is the last line of defence before the goalie has to look
after the goals.

Left wing left wing helps move the ball from the defence to the offense up the
left side of the field.

Right wing right wing helps move the ball from the defence to the offense up the
right side of the field.

Inner the inner players are positioned in the centre of the field and is the one
most responsible for scoring goals.

Midfield midfield support both the defence and offense, and are constantly
involved in making plays.

Hockey skills
Skill 1:
dribbling, to dribble you have to have your Hands shoulder width apart on the stick leaning over, bend your knees and reach your stick to the ball to make contact with the ball, push it along. The ball should never leave the stick. You should use this skill when youre moving the ball down to the striker circle.

Dribbling drill:
1. In pairs one dribbles ball around a cone about 10m in front of them and back using close dribble, then partner goes. Repeat several times 2. In pairs one dribbles ball around a cone about 10m in front of them and back using the open dribble, then partner goes. Repeat several times

Skill 2:

shooting, to score an accurate goal make sure you have

the correct stance. You should point your shoulders ahead and keep your head steady and also make sure you follow you stick through.

Shooting drill:
1. Player at the top of the circle receives the ball with his/her back to the goal. Then turns with one touch, either left or right and shoots at goal. Shooting with either the flat reverse stick or the forehand. Each time the passer runs to the circle to become the next receiver and shooter. 2. The defensive player marks the offensive player man-to-man inside the circle. The offensive player will try to draw the defensive player towards the outside of the circle by cutting wide. This will help create space in front of the goal.

Skill 3: defensive tackle, to play a defence position you should learn different ways of a
tackle. A jab is used just to get the ball away from the opposition, simply jab the ball without coming in contact with the player or their stick. Swing tackling you have to contact the stick and the ball to also get the ball out of their possession but you dont have much control over where the ball goes.

Defence and tackle drill:

One player will control dribble in place. The other players Will try to knock the ball away from the dribbler using a jab tackle. Coaches need to watch for the proper form on the jab tackle. The key to a good. Tackle is timing it so the ball is between the stick handling, so the dribbler loses control of the ball.

Nutrients in meals
Before and after a hockey game its important to consume a meal high in carbohydrates. Foods with plenty of carbs in it include breads, bagels, rice, pasta, fruit, juice and vegetables. A planned meal that I would consume pre my match would be: - 1 bowel of pasta spaghetti bolognaise - 1 cup of fruit juice - 1 apple This meal contains the nutrients and carbohydrates I need to play a full hockey match. In the human body carbs help the muscle strengthen to perform all the skills such as bend down, run up the field fast and swing at the ball with full power to push it down the field. During the breaks you should have - Water - Powerade Water rehydrates you and powerade has electrolites that helps stop cramping and gives you energy. After the match you should eat protein such as a: - Steak - Eggs To replenish your muscle tissues that have been torn during the match. Also to get back the energy used in the match.
