and Science News October This month is an exciting one for our students at Lester D. Wilson. On Oct. 4th the Nutritionist from the Shop Rite Young Consumer Program will be visiting our third graders. Students will learn about good nutritional choices. The trainers from that program will also be visiting the classrooms and working with the students on math concepts. Next, on Oct. 10 the students in grade 3, along with peer leaders from Alexandria Middle School, will visit the Shop Rite store to do shopping and budgeting for a family of 4 with $75.00. They will also be doing mathematical challenges at centers. We appreciate the parent volunteers who signed up to help us with this project. On October 15 we will transform our all-purpose room into a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Museum. Grades 1,2, and 3 will visit our museum to do many different hands on activities. We again thank the parents and community members who volunteered to help on this exciting project. And we thank the Alexandria Education Foundation for there support so that this project could be done. In STEM classes students are learning what kinds of scientist there are, where they work, and what tools they use. They are drawing pictures of what they think a scientist looks like and where they work. This month will learn about measurement using some of the tools in our STEM room. Students will learn how to use a magnifying glass, scales, graduated cylinders, and different linear measuring tools.
