GCSE PE Organiser Booklet Table Tennis

Summary of rules: Doubles competition so everyone competes with a partner. Players must alternate shots (A1-B1-A2-B2-A1-B1-A2-B2 etc). Serves must be played from the right side of the table across to the opposite diagonal. Receiver of previous serve to always serve next to partner of previous server. Serves must be played from an open palm, behind and above the backline of the table after being tossed at least 6 inches up and contact made as the ball drops. Service must bounce on own side before travelling over net. Ball must bounce once (no more) before contact is made. Contact behind back line of table before ball has bounced is void.

Scoring system: Teams are placed in 2 groups (A + B), with results of group stage used to determine seeding for knock-out competition later. Matches played first to 11 (with a 5 minute limit on each match). If match is unfinished after 5 minutes of play, current scores are used, e.g. 8-9. Sudden death at 10-10. All points scored contribute towards teams totals in group stages.

Equipment Needed: Tables (x4) Bats (x16) Balls (x4) plus spares in case of damage. Stop watch Mini-white boards for scoring (plus pens) Overall scoreboard to show order of play and knock out matches.
