Prolapse of the anus or rectum is usually caused by constipation or chronic diarrhea,
hemorrhoids, weakness in aged people, women after childbirth, and fatigue or crying in children.
Differential diagnosis: Patients of the excessive type may suffer from constipation, redness, swelling, itching or pricking pain of anus, abdominal distension, red tongue with yellow coating, and rapid pulse. Patients of the deficient type may suffer from weakness, shallow breath, no desire to speak, mental fatigue, sallow complexion, poor appetite, vertigo, pale tongue with thin coating, and soft and thready pulse.
Treatment:
Foot massage: The massage is applied to kidney (22), ascending, transverse and descending colon (28, 29 and 30), rectum (31), anus (32), spleen (34) and stomach (15) reflecting areas (Fig. 72).
Foot acupuncture:
Meridianal acupoints: At Shugu (BL 65), Taichong (LR 3), J iexi (ST 41) and Taibai (SP 3) acupoints, a reducing technique is applied to patients of the excessive type and a reinforcing technique with moxibustion after acupuncture is applied to patients of the deficient type.
Extemal application of drug: Bimazi (castor bean) 15 gm is oounded to prepare a paste for applieation over the central area of both soles, affixed with adhesive plaster.
