I used CREDO reference to find this International Handbook of Giftedness and Talent. I found this link using handbook as a keyword search. The information in the handbook was published by Elsevier Science Ltd. Im not sure if a print version exists for this handbook. Interesting features of this online version include the citation link which opens up a window called Easy bib with bibliography information in APA, MLA, Chicago, or Harvard styles. The reference citation can be then e-mailed, saved to a file, sent to Easy Bib, Zotero, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, RefWorks, or Clipboard. These multiple referencing options make it much easier to keep references together and sort them accordingly, therefore allowing copyrights not to be harmed. Below is a footnote concerning the eight links: 1 Since the terms giftedness, talent, creativity, and genius appear in this chapter, a brief note is in order concerning their intended meanings. Giftedness and talent are used synonymously to encompass publicly valued abilities possessed by no more than one to two percent of people at each developmental stage. Creativity is regarded here as representing one of two aspects of giftedness (or talent), namely, innovation or invention that deserves critical acclaim, in contrast to the other aspect of giftedness (or talent) which refers to highly developed proficiency in highly demanding tasks. Genius is the most advanced extension of giftedness (or talent) or creativity, denoting Olympian-level accomplishments by the rarest of adults. Grades: Teachers, professors, and parents. Subject(s): Gifted and talented themes. Overall rating: 9.

Below is an excerpt from the preface of chapter 33, before the main text made up of six links: A great number of Hispanics in the United States are involved in the legal system, particularly the criminal justice system. Consequently, competence in combined Hispanic psychology and forensic psychology will be in great demand in the twenty-first century. Despite such demand, books on forensic psychology published in the past few years have virtually ignored or given scant attention to the issue of race and ethnicity in the forensic arena. This chapter attempts to address issues of Hispanic psychology pertinent to the forensic psychologist. Grades: 9th and older. Subject(s): (Forensic) Psychology & Culture/Ethnic Studies. Occupational Outlook Handbook : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. (2012). Retrieved from http://www.bls.gov/ooh/. The Occupational Outlook Handbook : U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics lists 25 "Occupation Groups" that have links on the left side of the home page of this government online handbook. It is a public (free) source, although it was also listed within GALILEO as a database within my "handbook" search. The links mentioned above are as follows: Architecture and Engineering, Arts and Design, Building and Grounds Cleaning, Business and Financial, Community and Social Service, Computer and Information Technology, Construction and Extraction, Education, Training, and Library, Entertainment and Sports, Farming, Fishing, and Forestry, Food Preparation and Serving, Healthcare, Installation, Maintenance, and Repair, Legal, Life, Physical, and Social Science, Management, Math, Media and Communication, Military, Office and Administrative Support, Personal Care and Service, Production, Protective Service, Sales, and Transportation and Material Moving. The top of the home page also has the following seven tabs: OOH Home, Occupation Finder, OOH FAQ, OOH Glossary, A-Z Index, OOH Site Map, and En Espaol. There is also a general "Search Handbook" box. "The profiles featured here cover hundreds of occupations and describe What They Do, Work Environment, How to Become One, Pay, and more. Each profile also includes BLS employment projections for the 201020 decade." A featured occupation is highlighted (this changes throughout the hour/day) and there is a section for selecting an occupation based on the following five criteria: 2010 Median Pay, Entry-Level Education, Onthe-job Training, Number of new Jobs (Projected), and Growth Rate (Projected). A user can browse jobs by Highest Paying- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Fastest Growing (Projected)- Personal Care Aides, or Most New Jobs (Projected)- Registered Nurses. I can see this handbook being used in high schools and university settings when career counseling is being discussed and/or researched. This site has statistics from a couple of years ago, however, as an online source, areas are updated easier than a print source, so later in any given year newer information would be updated, replacing the older figures. High school students might use this database as a project to discover ones likes and dislikes for a possible career path and university students might use the "Contacts for More Information" tab within the job entry to actually speak with or connect in some way with potential employers, etc. I would recommend this handbook to parents as well as they often may need to switch job careers due to layoffs, etc. This resource would meet their needs as well. Grades: 9th and older. Subject(s): Career Counseling (Occupations). Overall rating: 10.

Birch, D.(2009). The Oxford Companion to English Literature. : Oxford University Press. Retrieved from http://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/acref/9780192806871.001.0001/acref9780192806871. The Oxford Companion to English Literature is a offered in print, however it can be found online as well. Oxford Online lists its Companion as "a leading reference resource for students, teachers, scholars, and general readers of English literature. It provides unrivalled coverage of all aspects of English literature from writers, their works, and the historical and cultural context in which they wrote, to critics, literary theory, and allusions." I saw several contents within the seventh edition of this Companion which has been "thoroughly revised and updated to meet the needs and concerns of today's students and general readers." New entries have been added, allowing for new writers to be displayed as well as an increased coverage of writers and literary movements from around the globe. It is noted that coverage of American literature has been increased substantially. I was unaware that" the Companion has always been a quick and dependable source of reference for students, and the new edition confirms its pre-eminent position as the A-Z resource of first choice." It was impressive to learn that "all entries have been reviewed, and details of new works, biographies, and criticism have been brought right up to date. So also has coverage of the themes, approaches and concepts encountered by students today, from terms to articles on literary theory and theorists. There is increased coverage of writers from around the world, as well as from Ireland, Scotland, and Wales, and of contextual topics, including film and television, music, and art." My favorite element in this and other reference sources is "cross-referencing", which has updated throughout the site, "with stronger linking from writers to thematic and conceptual entries." "The seventh edition of this classic Companion now under the editorship of Dinah Birch, assisted by a team of 28 distinguished associate editors, and over 150 contributors ensures that it retains its status as the most authoritative, informative, and accessible guide to literature available." I see this reference source being used in high school and in the university setting. English literature teachers and professors could use it for their lessons and/or assign it to be reviewed by their students. With a range of authors and genres included, it seems to be an easy way to understand the literature that the authors wrote through this handbook. With the 6,498 entries, there is quite a lot of information included. I did not get my hands on the book, however I will do so at my next opportunity. Grades: 9th and older. Subject(s): English Literature. Overall rating: 9.
