Assessment Criteria and Method of Evaluation

Standards Movement and physical activity Movement and physical activity Assessment Criteria They investigate different components of fitness, how these vary between activities and how they contribute to the wellbeing of people at different stages of their lives. Students learn to set personal physical activity and/or fitness goals, develop an activity and/or fitness program and evaluate its success. Evidence Observation of appropriate activity for given fitness component. Participates in and understands other activities and the fitness component each are addressing. Note the activity that each group developed. Did they work cooperatively throughout the task?

Students Background Knowledge

In previous years the students have covered views of fitness, the benefits of physical activity, relationships between physical activity, fitness and health, factors that influence participation, relationship between physical activity and nutrition and components of fitness.

Stage of lesson
Stage 1 Introduction

Tasks
Class preparation

Time
5 mins

Student action
. Listen to instructions.

Teacher action
Introduce topic. Take the role.

Warm up: Modified Interval Running 1. 2. 3. Students are to go at the speed dictated by the cones: Yellow Cone = run Red Cone = sprint Blue Cone = walk/jog

15 mins

Students in 4 groups, one group at each corner of the running area Complete task as a group, all moving together at the same time Students are to work through the inquiry questions relating to the activity

Set up running area Allocate students to groups Alter the running area as required Create discussion at end of activity and CFU Introduce task (but only briefly). REMEMBER student inquiry is the focus! Supervise and facilitate students in their inquiry learning Allow them to explore the activities Create discussion about the various circuit stations, how they differ from each other, what fitness areas are of focus etc.

Stage 2 Body of lesson

1. 2.

3.

4.

Circuit: 60secs on/60secs off (rotate) Ladder running: running up the ladder, jog back. Complete as many as possible in allotted time. Speed weave: sprint around the cones as if dodging a player. Weave up, jog back. Complete as many as possible in the allotted time. Mini suicides: run up, touch first line with hand, run back, run to next line, touch with hand, run back etc. Complete as many as possible in the allotted time. Sprint walk backs: sprint to line as fast as possible,

20 mins

Students in SAME 4 groups as before Students are to work through the circuit activities using the cue cards provided They are to inquiry about how and why the various tasks are to be completed. Why do the activities this way instead of another way? The students are also required to

walk back. Complete as many as possible in the allotted time. Mini Phosphate Recovery Test: 6x 20m sprints on a 30second time cycle 15mins

answer the questions relating to some of the fitness theories behind the activities Students in groups of 3, take turns in completing test (1 runner, 1 time keeper, 1 scribe) Students are to support each other and make not of the varying times Use the times recorded and the individuals physical responses to the activity and work through the inquiry questions. E.g. why did these effects occur? Students return their equipment. Students state what they have learnt from the class and give feedback about lesson. Act as the facilitator, offer feedback and support.

Create discussion and CFU about related fitness theory

Stage 3: Conclusion

Return equipment Conclude lesson

2 mins 3 min

Teacher surveys area making sure it is clean. Lead concluding discussion. What do you think was the focus of today? What did we discover from doing the activities? Did you find working as a group a good way to learn? Positives and negatives from the lesson? Reflect on students ability inquiry about a task, work as a team cooperatively and apply understanding of fitness components to the task.
