My Report

The Humanities

Economics: Class 6A took part in a unit called 'Earn and Learn'. During this unit Josh was able to develop an understanding of occupations, wages, bills and the costs of running a household. He worked collaboratively with his partner Matthew to ensure that they banked their artificial money every week and calculated the interest on their savings. They were able to earn extra money by completing jobs around the community which allowed them to save more money than most other partnerships. Geography: During the unit 'Atlas and awareness' Josh showed slight confusion when asked to describe the position of Australian places. When given an atlas however Josh proved proficient at located places on the map and was able to identify distance between two places 'as the crow flies. Students in the class were given a budget of $5,000 to investigate different areas throughout Australia. They were required to plan a 30 day trip around Australia, including a visit to twoislands and 12 stopovers that don't include melbourne. 3 coastal cities and 4 inner cities towns on the tour. It had to start and finish in Melbourne.

Civics and Citizenship: Josh is interested and attentive when studying integrated topics. His science unit, 'Endangered Species', had detail and was well researched. He involved the audience, asked questions about his topic, 'Proboscis Monkey' and linked his information, both visual and oral, very well. He is also engaged and interested in our 'Future Leaders' program adding pertinent comments and thoughtful ideas when appropriate. At camp Josh was totally involved, an excellent team player and a pleasure to have in the group. History: Josh worked hard through our history unit this term and contributed in class discussions and projects relating to the emergence of Australia as its own nation. His feature project in particular showed a competent and impressive understanding. Josh finds remembering specific dates challenging but when prompted is able to correctly interpret events that occurred. Josh was a avid listener during our Indigenous incursion and asked insightful questions relating to Indigenous rights and their experiences.
