Prior Learning/Prior Thinking Students will have previous experience with football from prior physical education football units in their younger years. Potosi is usually known for their football team, and that is something the school and community really take pride in. Some misconceptions I plan on seeing, especially from the boys to the girls, is not sharing the ball with them. Also, some girls will seem uninterested because football is a boys sport. If this issue becomes

apparent, I plan to adapt the rules so a certain number of boys and girls have to have contact with the ball before scoring, etc. Also, the boys may need to be reminded respect and sportsmanship, especially if the girls cannot perform at their level. This will only become an issue if we complete the punt pass and kick contest and have extra time to play the game. Otherwise, the game will be played a different day.

ASSESSMENT BEFORE THE LESSON Pre-assessment Prior to this lesson, students will have had 7 days of their football unit. Students will know how to properly throw a football, kick (punt and kick off) and catch a football. The main activity is a form of assessment done by their teacher Ms. Mau, themselves, and myself. Students will be reminded the proper technique of how to perform each skill and will also be reminded that only positive encouragement is welcome.

LESSON PLAN OBJECTIVES AND LIFE SKILLS

Skill Development 1. Basic Skill Instruction TSW define their passing, punting and kicking skills that they developed in a previous lesson by reviewing proper form and practicing them correctly before performing at each station. 2. Fitness Benefits Skill Related Fitness Life Skills 5. Effort TSW put forth their best effort when performing at each station in order to get a high score and for assessment purposes. 6. Goal Setting

4. Health Related Fitness TSW be involved in a warm-up that targets their cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength before performing the punt pass and kick contest.

TSW set goals throughout the punt pass and kick contest, in hopes to improve each try.
7. Communication TSW show communication by cheering on their partners, showing respect, and congratulating one another.

Introduction Total time: 8 minutes

Formations / Cues

Assessment

Lesson Objective(s): Students will enter the gym and look at the white board to see and begin their warm-up. Once complete, students will stand around the circle at center court and wait for further instruction. Before going outside, students will review proper technique to punt, pass and kick a football. Aligns with #1 and #4.

1. Warm-up 5 laps around gym 20 jumping jacks 10 lunges 10 push-ups 2. Proper throwing form Fingers on laces Elbow high Step in opposition Follow through Aim for spiral 3. Proper punting technique Hold ball out in front with two hands Release ball and swing leg at same time Swing leg straight forward to shoulder Keep toe pointed 4. Proper kicking technique Set football perpendicular on the Tee Do your routine (walk back a few steps) Take approach Contact sweet spot and kick with top of foot Follow through

To check for students understanding and progress, students will be asked the proper technique of how to throw, punt, and kick. Example questions: 1. when kicking from the tee, what part of the foot do you kick with? 2. What do we line our fingers up with when throwing the football? 3. How do we hold the football before we punt it?

Planned Transitions: After assessment and checking for understanding takes place, Students will partner up with someone of the same gender and of their choice.

we will move outside to begin the Punt, Pass and Kick Contest.

Main Activities Total time: 20 minutes

Lesson objective(s): Students will participate in a punt, pass and Kick assessment. There will be three stations They are expected to complete.

Formations / Cues At each station there will be cue cards in sequential order to help students who may not remember the proper technique or may not be able to perform the skill.

Assessment Students will be required to fill out the recording sheet. This sheet will be used to access their skill level. A predetermined measurement skill will be used to determine the level at which they are performing. Students will also be observed by Ms. Mau and myself on form and technique. One will be at the

At each station, there will be a tape measure The students with IEPs will use a lighter football, in unrolled. While one student performs the Task, the other will spot where it landed and order to be able to perform the proper technique. Record it on the recoding sheet. Each student

and accuracy will be done on a later day, therefore, technique of that skill will be measured later as well.

Formations / Assessment Strategy Stretching will take place while review of proper technique via question and answer occurs.

Assessment at the end of the lesson This entire lesson is part of an assessment related to punting passing and kicking off a tee. At the end of the lesson, students will again be asked to verbalize the correct sequence of steps and technique to perform a proficient punt, pass and kick. Student progress will be measured on the recording sheets by their partner. Each student will get three attempts at each station. Formative: questioning technique and steps before and after the punt pass and kick contest. Students will be able to use the cue cards to help if they have any issues with remembering the right technique. Summative: the recording sheet of distance and observation of technique my Ms. Mau and myself will be used throughout the entire lesson. Equipment needs Safety Considerations 10 footballs (one for each group), skill cards that demonstrate proper Safety concerns include the following: technique of the punt, pass, and kick, tape measures laid out, Injury of shoulder or arm due to overemphasizing the throw certificates to hand out at the end of the class, White board to display Balls coming from other stations into others be alert at all times their warm-up on, Music.

Differentiated Instruction
Modify equipment Substituting a lighter and smaller ball for the throwing task; substituting a bigger ball for the kicking task Modify instruction Instead of competing in the punt, pass and kick contest, students can work on enhancing and furthering development in those three areas by practicing with a partner.

Classroom Management/Democratic Practices

Students are allowed to choose their partners for this activity. Doing so creates a friendly learning environment throughout the punt pass and kick contest. Students are more comfortable this way, especially if they dont perform either of these tasks at a proficient level.

The punt, pass and kick contest itself provides an exciting classroom environment for all students. Gender is taken into consideration when looking at the farthest punt pass and kick throughout the entire contest.

Possible Community Resources: Students will be able to apply the technique and skills to game like situations. Also the techniques can be
used in different sports as well. Students will be notified that the NFL does punt pass and kick contests all over the country for kids just like them.

3. Steps to perform a proper football kick (visual aids used at punt pass and kick stations)

Set up the football. Place the football perpendicular to the ground on the holder. The football should be upright with a slight slant toward the holder.

Walk backward away from the ball the number of paces appropriate for you. It is approximately three large paces back and two paces to the left or right of the ball.

Take your approach in steps. Usually kickers take about two to three approach steps.

Position your plant foot so that it points toward your target. Your plant foot should go about five to seven inches behind your target.

Make contact with the ball. Aim for the sweet spot, about four inches above the bottom of the football. This is important because it allows you to manipulate the distance and height that the football will travel.

Kick the ball with the top of your foot. This allows you to produce the maximum transfer of energy to the ball.

Follow the kick through your target. Once you make contact with the football, dont stop the forward motion of your foot. 4. Steps to perform the proper football punt (visual aids used at the punt pass and kick stations)

Hold the ball straight out in front of you, spreading your fingers evenly around the ball.

Release the ball so it drops flat.

Start swinging your leg at the same time you drop the ball.

Swing your leg straight forward to your shoulder, not to your side. Keep head down with eyes on the ball at all time. 5.Steps to perform the proper football pass (Visual aids used at the punt pass and kick stations)

Hold the football so that your ring and little fingers cross the laces, and your thumb is underneath.

Face 90 degrees away from your target. Keep the ball near your ear.

Wind your throwing arm back behind your ear.

Release the ball with your fingertips. As the football leaves your hand, it should only touch your fingertips. After throwing the ball, follow through.

Instructor Reflection:
4. As I reflect on the lesson, to what extent were students/clients productively engaged? (Brief description of how they were or were not productively engaged.) As I reflect on the lesson plan, I believe my students will be positively engaged throughout the entire lesson. Not only are they being assessed on their skill level, but they are also competing in a competition. The punt pass and kick contest is a nation wide event and hosting a mock one in their own physical education classroom can be very exciting. Students have the opportunity to challenge themselves, set goals, communicate with peers and improve in their football skills.
