The Pilgrims
Separatist group that wanted to separate from the Anglican church. Came to America in 1620 seeking religious freedom. In England, you had to attend the Anglican church, or you could be arrested. Wanted a simple church without all of the rituals of the Anglican church.

The Pilgrims
Left England and immigrated to Holland. Left Holland on The Mayflower headed for Northern Virginia, but landed in present Massachusetts December 21, 1620. Mayflower Compact November 21, 1620 41 males aboard the ship signed this document, a legal contract in which they agreed to have fair laws to protect the general good.

The Pilgrims meet Native Americans

March 1621, Pilgrims meet Samoset (Abenaki) and Squanto (Wampanoag) both spoke English. They helped the Pilgrims adapt to the conditions of the land by teaching them how to farm. They also helped the colonists establish a good relationship with the neighboring Wampanoag Indians.
