EC 2305 TRANSMISSION LINES & WAVEGUIDES ASSIGNMENT I PART A 1. Define Propagation constant. 2. Define neper and decibel.

el. Write the relationship between them. 3. Define characteristic impedance of a network. 4. What are called cut-off frequencies in the design of filters? 5. Define constant-k filters. 6. Draw the constant-k high pass filter and write the design equations. 7. Write the disadvantages of constant k filter. 8. Write the advantages of m-derived filter. PART B 1. Design an m derived low pass filter (T and section) having design resistance Ro = 500, cut off frequency fc = 1500Hz and infinite attenuation frequency f=2000Hz. 2. Design a prototype T section of a band pass filter having cut-off frequency of 12 kHz and 16 kHz and a design impedance of 600 ohms. 3. Draw a constant-k T section band elimination filter and explain the operation with necessary design equations. 4. Discuss the properties of symmetrical network in terms of characteristic impedance and propagation constant. 5. A section filter network consists of a series arm inductance of 20mH and two shunt arm capacitor of 0.16F each. What is the value of cut off frequency and design impedance? Calculate the attenuation and phase shift at 15 kHz.
