How will you facilitate the process of students learning with the mobile technology? Will they work in groups? Will they work in a computer lab or classroom setting? Will you have extra teachers/adults/older students available to help troubleshoot? Taking the initial few photographs may require some support as will the uploading of files to a computer and then to a website. Ideally the photos will be taken at home with the assistance of parents or family. Loading the files may require teacher assistance. What mobile technology will be used in this lesson? Cell phone, tablet or digital camera. Computer with Web access. Flickr website. How will the technology be used to enhance the learning process? To aid in the documentation and description of their observations. Additionally sharing/collaborating their findings by uploading. What do they need to know before participating in this lesson? Students should know that organisms are classified by common traits such as fur, wings, scales etc. These traits are then organized into categories such as mammals, insects, plants etc. Also students will need to know how to take pictures with their device and how to upload them to a computer. How will you assess student learning in this lesson? The student has provided 5 examples of different organisms. The student has provided at least one justification in the form of a trait to classify each organism accurately. How will you know that the learning objective was met? Students will be able to classify both familiar and unfamiliar organisms based on observable traits.
